I didn't find her to be that great in this. There were moments where she appeared to be trying too hard. Or maybe it's just me who is becoming more and more difficult to please. Walken thoroughly deserved his Oscar, and De Niro deserved his nomination, but Streep's character could have been played by anyone and the actress still would have got an Oscar nomination.

shareThe role was underwritten but Streep brought a lot of dignity to what would normally be a pretty thankless part. I don't agree that just anyone would have gotten the nomination.

shareI thought Streep was the best actor in the movie. And I thought both Walken and De Niro were excellent. That shot where she answers the front door, looks surprised to see Michael, then hugs him and allows the feelings to wash over her face, I don't think I'll ever forget it. For me, it was a showcase of what a superb actor can pull off if you give them the right scene and five seconds.
shareThis character was given absolutely nothing to distinguish her. The trivia says she ad-libbed much of what showed up in the movie. I think Streep did a brilliant job and I cannot imagine another actor of the time who could have given this role the weight she supplied.

share@Nikon11.I don't know what movie they were watching either.However I've notice recently there's been people who try to pretend she isn't anything special when it comes to acting. Meryl Streep gave a great performance in The Deer Hunter.She has never given a bad performance.In my OPINION Meryl Streep is the best actress(not one of the best actresses but THE Best Actress).
