How old and when did you first see this?

Me, I saw it when I was about 10-11, back in the mid 80's. We lived overseas at the time and couldn't get TV stations (save for taped shows sent over by family), so Wizards was one of a few movies I'd rewatch a gazillion times.

I almost wonder if many kids who've grown up on things like Dragonball Z (ugh) think that Wizards is a screwy flick. I still love the trippy effects, weird rotoscoping- and Mike Ploog's and Ian Miller's art still stands today!

I saw it on cable in the mid 80s, i was 7 or 8 years old. I remember that was some kind of Rlaph Bakshi marathon, i saw Wizards, Lord Of the Rings and Fire and Ice that day....it was awesome!

I was 8 when I first saw this when it came out in theatres back in '77. My dad who just recently retired was a theatre manager so I got to see ALOT of movies. My dad and I share some of the same tastes in movies and this was one that we enjoyed. We both have a copy of the movies on VHS and DVD.

I'm 21 now, I saw the film when I was 15 and I loved it. It was a whole new experience for me. The first Ralph Bakshi film I'd seen was The Lord of the Rings when I was 10 and while I think that film is still pretty underrated, Wizards was the greater film. I was proud to have understood the symbolism too.

I waited for this one to hit the theaters from the time I first heard of it, and was lucky enough, in late 70's SE Kansas, to find one theater that carried it. It was a deeply flawed movie, but viewpoint and style were so novel that it made up for all that, and made the wait worthwhile. I was about 28 when i first saw it.

I read a review of the new Red Dawn that points out that some movies are a product of the era when they were made, and really wouldn't make sense to remake. I think along with that, there are movies that almost cannot be appreciated by someone who didn't live through the age.

I think Wizards is one of those movies - that to truly appreciate it, you have to have lived through the massive Sci Fi drought of the 70s. As others have commented, the mix of modes in this movie, probably the result of the tight budget, give it a handmade feel that modern kids may not appreciate.

I first watched it back in 1978 when I was 15 years old. It was on HBO. This was the early days of HBO when they only showed like three movies from 3 in the afternoon until about 11:00 p.m. when it would go off the air. My friends and I thought it was great. I watched it a few years ago and it hasn't aged well. But I still like the dark animation style they used.
