What's the last horror movie that had an impact on society like Jaws had?
I read that people were scared of going to the beach after Jaws came out in the summer of 1975.

Very true. My family went to Florida for summer vacation in 1973 and I remember everybody in the water. We went back in 1976 and 85% of the people stayed on the beach. For those that went in the water, they stayed very close to the beach. I recall something scraped along my leg, some seaweed or something, and it scared the life out of me!
Before JAWS, a movie that had an impact on society was Psycho. People were actually very nervous while taking a shower! After JAWS, I don’t think there’s really anything that had the same kind of impact.

shareHmmm, I do not know if it is quite the same but Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street seem to have a big affect on the movie culture. Later on, I'd say Scream and then the Ring with all of the Japanese stories that came flooding in.
Of course i would have said the Exorcist but that was out before Jaws.
There was talk of people being afraid to take showers after Psycho came out. The Exorcist really frightened people and had the entire country talking. However, none of them had the power that JAWS had on moviegoers. It touched on something primal, and that fear is still there today.
