I would say that too, hilarious; somehow the word funny didn't come to my mind.

I remember that I checked out the Trivia section and found the actor who played the younger brother was once engaged to Meryl Streep.

"I remember that I checked out the Trivia section and found the actor who played the younger brother was once engaged to Meryl Streep" Well Sal wasn't Sonny's brother but in real life, John Cazale was engaged to Meryl Streep. Unfortunately shortly after filming The Deer Hunter Cazale passed away from cancer.

(Wickipedia) "He appeared in five films over a period of six years, all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter. He appeared in archival footage in The Godfather Part III, also nominated for Best Picture, making him the only actor to have this multi-film distinction."

It's full of humor, sometimes black humor but very very funny none the less.

That's agreed, thepartydjz. I must admit, however, that the ending was somewhat dark...and sadistic.

Well the ending is what really happened.

it felt like a comedy to me too

It's an extremely funny movie in a very tragical way.

reply

No. I think it has some wonderfully humorous moments, and they add to the pathos of what is essentially a tragic drama.

It has been marked as a comedy at times. The DVD called it a "boisterous comedy" and highlighted the film's humor. I watched it finding it funny at times but I was surprised how dark it was.
