When was the first time you read the book?

We had to read it in 3rd grade. And we also watched the movie. What I remember msot is the day after we read the book, out teacher (Mrs Farlander) decorated our class like a spider web. That (and the sadness of the story) left an impression on a bunch of 9 year olds.

I first read it in the early 1970s, a few years before the movie came out. Overall, I thought the movie was a pretty decent adaptation of the book but I could have done without the musical numbers.

The first time I read it, well it was read to me for the first time in 1st grade back in 1981. One of my FAVORITE stories of all time. I think I had that story read to me up until 5th grade and I still love it to this day.

1970 or so. But I did love the book and still do today. And I'm a 52 year old male! The movie was a good adaptation. I think you could cut out the musical numbers, too. I didn't think they were very good.

I disagree. The songs added "pep" to what was otherwise just a plain story.

Sad to say, I never read this book. I only really saw the movie. I wish this was one of those books my school required us to read, but it never did. A lot of kids I know read it though. I'm 22 now.

I only saw some of the movie a few weeks ago, but I liked it. Eventually, I'll read the book.

Well ........ I really HATE to age myself but I first read the book in fifth grade. That would have been in 1973-74 I believe, right after it was published. I was in Mrs. Mars' class and she read it to us. Believe me, there was not one kid in that class, including the bullies and boys, who didn't cry at the end of that story. This has been a favorite of mine, long before the movie came out, when we read the books first. As far as the movie goes, I was a little disappointed in the "Jeffery" segment since it didn't exist in the original story, but the rest of the movie was good. I didn't mind the few songs to help the story along. I have read the story to my kids (who are 8/6) and we always cry at the end. They also love the movie. However, the recently released new Charlotte's Web 2 movie sucks big time. The worst ever.

I've been familiar with the book for many, many years. I don't remember the first time I read it myself, but I do remember my older sister reading it to me (a chapter a night, just before bed - sometimes I was lucky and she'd read two) when I was four.

That was 26 years ago, and I still have the book... which surprisingly enough is a first edition that has been passed from one family member to another over the last 53 years or so. It's beat all to hell, the cover's threadbare, and the pages are loose, but it'll be from the same book that I read to my kids.

I first read this book in the 2nd Grade, and then I saw the movie and that was cool. Of course, my mom turned me onto the movie, in fact, she grew up on the movie.
