Isn't It Time for a Remake?? - Here's a 2006 Cast ...

Barbra Streisand .... Judy Maxwell - Kathy Griffin
Ryan O'Neal .... Dr. Howard Bannister - Jim Carrey or Nicolas Cage
Madeline Kahn .... Eunice Burns - Lisa Kudrow
Kenneth Mars .... Hugh Simon - John Michael Higgins
Austin Pendleton .... Frederick Larrabee - Nathan Lane
Michael Murphy .... Mr. Smith - Will Ferrell
Philip Roth .... Mr. Jones (as Phil Roth) - Brad Garrett
Sorrell Booke .... Harry - Jason Alexander
Stefan Gierasch .... Fritz - Eugene Levy
Mabel Albertson .... Mrs. Van Hoskins - Catherine O'Hara
Liam Dunn .... Judge Maxwell - J.K. Simmons
John Hillerman .... Mr. Kaltenborn - Patrick Stewart
George Morfogen .... Rudy, the Headwaiter - Angela Kinsey
Graham Jarvis .... Bailiff - Colin Mochrie
Randy Quaid .... Professor Hosquith - Rainn Wilson

The remake wouldn't have to follow the 1972 plot exactly. Indeed, the 1972 production was a remake of "Bringing Up Baby" from 1938. It was 34 years from "Brining Up Baby" to "What's Up Doc?" and it will be exactly 34 years from "What's Up Doc?" to 2006. It is time.

Some ideas:

Howard Bannister: Heath Ledger
Judy Maxwell: Cameron Diaz
Eunice Burns: Natalie Portman
Hugh Simon: Will Ferrel
Mr. Larrabee: Ryan Reynolds
Judge Maxwell: Christopher Walken

I'm quite a lovely person - apart from my terrible taste in pie.

reply

Sorry, but the only one of those I can even REMOTELY imagine is Will Ferrell as Hugh Simon. Cameron Diaz, really???? Um.

reply

In just playing around, I'd say (and don't hammer me for it, I said "playing around"):

Howard: Brad Pitt
Judy: Jennifer Anniston
Eunice: hmm
Hugh: Will Ferrell
Hotel Manager: Steve Carrell
Mrs. Van Hoskins: Shirley Maclaine
Judge: Mike Myers
Larrabee: Jim Carrey (and make the part bigger for Jim)

PLEASE.... NEVER... EVER.... Put the idea of a remake for this absolute classic film into the heads of any movie producers... ever heard the phrase : IF IT ISN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.........

This is my second favourite film and I would cry forever it they remade it with today's standards.......................

But I tried to get into the spirit and come up with new cast members and you know, the only person I could think of to play Judy is...... BARBRA STREISAND....

No remake......
No...
No...
No...

reply

Kathy Griffin MAYBE 10 years ago. Definitely not today...

reply

I shudder at the thought - she looks so insane and scary now. I just want to cringe whenever I see her.

But she could never carry off the role of Judy as well as Barbra! But then, who could.

Some films should just be left alone and this is one of them.

Both Streisand and Bogdonovich are irreplaceable, as is Madeline Kahn.

Also, the comedy couldn't be done - people only want bathroom humor
now (Streisand was reduced to such in the horrible "Meet the Fockers.").

Forget it.

reply

Hey, GBennett!

I agree 100% with everything you said.

i hate remakes. i hate them, hate them, hate them.

why would you do a remake anyway? of any film? what is the point?????????
i dont get it. if you like the story, watch the original.
if you thought it had great acting, watch the original.
if you thought it had great photography/directing/score/music etc....:
watch the damn original.
if there is one thing the history of cinema proves, it is this: remakes suck.
they suck big time.
instead of destroying the works of others, they should try to create something themselves.

reply

fu*k you and your re-make. Leave well enough alone

Hollywood doesn't make good movies anymore, so what's in the past should stay in the past.

hermwalt said: "And sure there is someone to replace Kahn: Nicole Kidman."

Wow, no one in their right mind would ever compare Nicole Kidman to Madeline Kahn. That's just ridiculous. Kidman would be better playing Frankenstein in a remake of Frankenstein.

You all have to remember that this was Madeline Kahn's first movie......so, IF, and only IF they were remaking the movie, you would want someone who is a nobody to play Eunice's character.

So the answer is no. There are no good ideas for anyone to replace anyone in the movie.

Everyone you say that would replace a character is a bad idea. The movie is perfect.

End of story.

hey OP

SHUT THE F UCK UP

I like Nicole Kidman and think she is a good actress, but I can't see ANYthing in common between her and Madeline Kahn aside from the fact that they're both redheads...

Eunice is quite OTT (as is most of the cast) so she'd have to be played by someone larger than life, like a professional comedienne or a broadway actress, that sort of thing.

reply

no remakes ever of this one!

reply

I do NOT want to see this film remade. Case closed.

reply

no remake....screw ball movies like that can only be made once...

I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will.

reply

Every movie listing I've seen in here has some post about a possible remake or sequel. Some movies are great the way they are. There are TOO many unoriginal movies as it is.

reply

Agreed, enough with this nonsense about a remake. A classic should not be "remade." Look at what they did with Psycho and Planet of the Apes. Next some genius will suggest they make a remake of the orginal Jaws.

reply

NO IT'S NOT. TOUCH THIS AND I'LL MURDER YOU.

reply

What? Nobody's mentioned Johnny Depp yet? Why not? Everybody else has been considered.
