who could play fannie brice in a modern broadway version?

i think sarah jessica parker could pull off the broadway version. her voice isn't as good as streisands...but as i was watching the movie i couldnt help but think of how similar they were. i think it could be really good!

Lauren Frost. She can act, and she sounds and looks exactly like Streisand.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a good starting point but too petite for the role. Fanny was a big lady (not heavy, necessarily but matronly.)

LEA MICHELLE will be PERFECT to play fanny, hahaha

I know that this is a story line on Glee and you might not like the show. But Lea Michele would be perfect for this. Everyone is saying Idina Menzel would be perfect but that she is too old. Well Lea looks so much like Idina but is younger and her voice is amazing! You should check out her cover of "Don't Rain on my Parade" on youtube.

The chances of this ever being redone on Broadway are about as slim as a true movie remake of the Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind. Especially since it is such a fictionalized account of Fanny Brices life (i.e., Nick Arnstein was her second husband not first) so she was much older when she met him) and it is so associated with Barbra.

HELL NO!

The London revival starring Sheridan Smith has been well-received, although critics are still knocking the libretto (which has been doctored by Harvey Fierstein).

I think Jessie Mueller would be an interesting choice.
