who could play fannie brice in a modern broadway version?

i think sarah jessica parker could pull off the broadway version. her voice isn't as good as streisands...but as i was watching the movie i couldnt help but think of how similar they were. i think it could be really good!

Sarah Jessica has a very poor voice - listen to her in Once Upon a Mattress. Idina Menzel is too ... wrong for the part. She just doesn't have that funny, charming force that the part needs. I'd say either Sutton Foster or Celia Keenan-Bolger. I know Celia and she is hilarious and has a really strong voice. Hers would be a totally different take on the part, which would be necessary so it would be compared to the original as much!!

Marion Cotillard. She did a wonderful as Edith Piaf and I am sure she could deliver another great performance as Fanny Brice, the only problem is that she ain't a good singer, therefore someone else should do the singing.

Her voice was not used for the songs in "Piaf"; Piaf's own recordings were used. I'm not saying she couldn't do the job--just don't base your recommendation on that one movie.

That just goes to show you. You go someplace and there you are.

Idina Menzel, the girl from "Glee", Mayim Bialik, Or Christina Aguilera!

i think lea michelle from glee is absolutely perfect for the role.
she's cute, but not too cute
she can definitely sing her ass off!
she's young (21 i believe)
she's jewish
she has great comedic timing
and this isnt that big of a deal but she has brown hair which is what the original fanny brice had.

i just think she would be amazing

LEA MICHELE!

I agree with Lea Michelle. Since she basicly audtioned for the role already on "Glee" and on the "Tony Awards". On both shows she sang "Don't rain on my Parade" note for note like Streisand. However I hope if she lands the role she doesn't do a carbon copy of Streisand anymore. She should change it up.

I just saw Lea Michele sing 'Don't Rain on my Parade' and it was outstanding, possibly better than the Barbra Streisand version, but I don't know how good an actress she is.
