Favorite Pink Panther Film

Very hard to choose. I would choose The Return Of The Pink Panther because it was the first one in the series I saw and from then on I got stuck with the Pink Panthers and Peter Sellers, also for the excellent fight scenes....
So my list is:

2.A Shot In The Dark
3.The Pink Panther Strikes Again
4.The Pink Panther
5.Revenge Of The Pink Panther

This one is my favourite. Its because of Sellers good job. I dont like the rest of the serie, because of its moron humor.

In this, Sellers makes the bungling looking very unintentional. <- very funny
Peter does the same thing in Dr Strangelove
and the humor is more clever in this

Bungling and humor in rest of the series is so emphasized and obvious <-- not so funny

I just bought the box set dvds. my 10 and 12 yr.old kids laughed themselves silly when we watched "The pink panther strikes again". just as i did when i was that age.
I have the same list as many others
1. ...strikes again, 2. return, 3.the pink panther. 4. a shot in the dark, 5.revenge, 6 trail.
I haven't seen all of "The son of the Pink Panther" --Jus the last few mins.But Benini appears to be able to handle the same style of comedy (under played), far better than Ted Wass could ever hope to. The Curse of the pink Panther isn't even on my list.
As far as the 2006 remake I haven't brought myself to see it yet. I will avoid it as long as I can.
over all the pink Panther movies, along w/ "It's a mad mad mad mad world" and "The Apple Dumpling Gang" are probably the funniest ALL-AGES movies ever made.

First off I don't count any non Sellers Panther films.

1. Pink Panther Strikes Back-Classic with Dreyfuss trying to kill Clouseau
2. Return of the Pink Panther-Great return with Plummer as Litton
3. Pink Panther-Great cast with a great soundtrack. All songs are 10's
4. Shot in the Dark-First appearance of Kato and Dreyfuss
5. Revenge of the Pink Panther-a little weaker than the others but excellent

honorary mention to Trail of the Pink Panther for including old Sellers footage.

i've always found it hard to choose between the first two. if i had to pick i would say that the first is the best film, but a shot in the dark is the funniest of the series. the pink panther has david niven in the lead and peter sellers is in a comic relief role; this seems to make for better story telling, but still works as a hilarious film. a shot in the dark and all of those that followed it had sellers in the lead and were much more madcap. a shot in the dark is easily the best of those. return, strikes again and revenge are all good films with their share of classic scenes, but none of them can hold a candle to the first two. i've never seen inspector clouseau or curse; don't rank trail (as it's a clip show) or the pink panther 06 (as it's a remake) but both are mediocre at best, and son is quite poor.

I have not seen all of them. The first one I saw was Revenge, which I thought was hilarious.

However, after seeing the original, Return (which I hardly remember), Revenge, Trail, and Son, as well as part of Shot, I have to say that my favourite is the original. It is a better movie overall than the others, and does not rely on stupidity as the others do because it is not stupid. More to the point, Cleauseau is not stupid in it. He is as much of a klutz as he is in the later movies, but he has a good intellect and a reasonable estimate of his capabilities. He is not the arrogant imbecile he becomes in the later movies.

The absence of Cato, Dreyfuss, and Professor Balls is also refreshing and makes the movie a lot more sensible.

I guess the original is more for people who like "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or "Plaza Suite" than for those who like "Animal House" or "National Lampoon's Vacation"
