This movie is as entertaining as staring at a wall. This was so unfunny and so much up it's own ass. Just like all Kubrick self-indulgent garbage, this was one of the worst movies of all time.
The only good thing about this were Peter Sellers and George C.Scott.
All you delusional, insecure, retarded snobs can eat sh!t. Deal with it, morons.
Comedy is a matter of taste. Yeah, everyone's having a thigh-slapping good snort over the tedious theme of making fun of the military. I think all those years of M*A*S*H on TV pounded that into the ground and broke it off. And if you look at only that, it's unfunny and pretentious.
But two things: First, this wasn't just a thigh-slapping good snort over the tedious theme of making fun of the military. It was the thigh-slapping good snort over the tedious theme of making fun of the military in the nuclear age. That ought to count for something. It was outrageous farce played with deadly seriousness and took a good deal of the nuclear tension off. Heck, you probably grew up without having to wear little dog tags around your neck as a child so when they bombed the snot out of us someone could sift through the radioactive rubble and identify our dead, burnt, little bodies. Kids of the '50's always had that weight on their shoulders. How else to deal with it than with outrageous farce?
Second -- and no sarcasm this time -- as you noticed, Sellers and Scott were brilliant in this. So was Keenan Wynn. And that last scene with Slim Pickens was classic.
So kick back with a brewsky and put yourself back in the day when the thought that you could be toast at any moment was always lurking in the back of your brain and, doggone it, enjoy the performances!
I've offen wondered if someone could really appreciate this dark comedy who hasn't lived through the nuclear fear of the cold war. I was born in 1958 and up though at least 3rd grade we had air raid drills and "duck and cover drills", diving under our desks in case there wasn't time to evacuate to the basement of the school.
One of the worst movies of all time, huh? Please watch some more movies and don't pretend as that your sorry post counts as anything other than a laughable display of ignorance. Deal with it!
