Vivien Leigh's character...annoying?

Agree? Disagree?

When she was constantly telling them not to stand up when she was walking through, was that just her being a b**ch or was that a common thing to say?

reply

It was common courtesy (still is today) for men to stand whenever a lady entered the room. But, the environment, in which, the play was taking place was less than cordial, so males in that environment were reminded that that was the custom whenever Blanche would tell them not to get up.

yeah she was defiantly annoying at times, just...very over the top. but its still a great performance, she has great moments, and ive really come to feel so sad for her character. I think everyone on some level can relate to her, especially if you've been beaten up by life. in some ways I understood her thoughts of living in a pretend world, her mind is cracked and she cant handle real life, and of course stanely NOT understanding her at all, or that she is pbviously sick in some way, and torturing her fragile mind, it makes you pity the character.

I HATED how mitch turned on her. yes she did lie about herself, but jeez she explained everything afterword and said her whole dark past, in the most sympathetic way. and instead of him understanding, that he isn't perfect either and would accept her, he turns on her and says shes not "clean" enough to be around him and his mom. that was realy *beep* up and he should be grateful this woman even gave him the time of day, mitch was just a strange looking mamas boy who turned out to be superficial instead of understanding and caring.

Blanche was mentally ill as well as Vivien herself. Vivien deserved the Oscar, as well as the gorgeous Marlon Brando. I'm a fan of both & had plans for today that fell through. It's the first time I watched A Street Car Named Desire. It's on demand in Comcast television.

Good lord yes she is annoying. A pain in the ass. Dishonest, manipulative, phony and selfish.

I wanted to strangle her throughout whole movie. The most annoying female character I can remember.

reply

She was manic shooting that movie, the manic part of manic depressive, that does tend to be annoying. It's okay to want to strangle her, but I'm glad nobody did.

reply

She played the role of a very insecure, disturbed, lonely woman very well.

reply

She is whiny, manipulative, deranged, lying, and babbles incessantly about what a pitiful victim she is. Annoying.
