I reported this well over a week ago and YouTube have failed to take it down. This sets a dangerous precedent and I expect more from YouTube. Where's the incentive to even create films when they are likely going to be pirated online or even streamed for free on YouTube.....

shareThe concept that creators don't deserve to be paid for their work is obscene. Getting stuff "for free" that should be paid for is stealing, plain and simple. You (generic you) are not entitled to be entertained. People work to create books, movies, TV shows, art, and so forth. They are entitled to be paid for it.
Yes, I am a creator; an independent author. My own interests do not invalidate my opinion. I have had it long before I started selling books.

im a creator too but not a sellout money grabbing one. i believe in my art wholeheartedly and would dare not prostitute it for worldly gains. i made my money already and am retired, all my videos i make i upload for free to youtube with nothing but the goal of having other people enjoy my work. stealing deprives someone of goods, pirating doesn't do that. i wouldnt spend any money watching this shit in the first place. the powers at be decided to spend a bunch of money making this stuff and releasing it for the sheep to pay for. i am a wolf, i want to be informed on what the sheep watch from time to time but dont want to feed the propaganda machine my own resources like a cuck. it is my God given right to watch whatever is released into the public consciousness! the powers at be have so much resources and corruption they force taxpayers to buy dvds and shit for the library. pirating is the same as that but better for environment and consumer

Its great if you can afford to do that. Many artists do not. We see the very rich and think that all creators must be rich. Not the case. Many barely make a profit.
If you can afford to make your work free, that is your right. It is also the right of creators to expect compensation for their work.

a creative can charge for there work but should also understand some people cant pay and if that is the case dont be upset that there work is being duplicated and shared. the whole point of art is to share it with others. i would rather have millions of people enjoying my work who dont pay me or do pay me a couple cents each, than 10,000 loyal customers paying a bunch of money like a cult leader

So you really don't care how much a creator is getting. You promote getting around paying someone and getting it for free; which is stealing.
I don't know what kind of creator you are (that is not to be interpreted as a criticism. I just mean I don't know if you are a writer, painter, film maker, etc.), but most do not make that much from any particular work. Some get very lucky; most don't. They may make enough to make a living and not need another job; but they are still, usually, making what a lower to middle middle class citizen is making. One of my books might make fifty cents for a paperback and maybe a dollar and a half for the ebook. Not exactly a ton of money. Most authors I know can just about afford to go to a fan convention a time or two per year.
And just for the record, even if a creator is making millions, getting their work for free is still stealing. That is the only word for it. And I do not think people who have enough morals not to steal from other people "dumb sheeple." That make them moral people. Stealing makes someone a thief.
i grew up poor and crawled out of the gutter but remain white trash. stealing isnt a bad thing, it is good if u can get away with it. just cause i am millionaire now doesnt mean i will change my white trash ways that got me here where i am today. all the videos i make for youtube are for others and my own spiritual value. i do not care about making money from my art. would rather make money from easier ways if i need it then sellout my art. there are more manly and fun ways to make money than creative projects. creative project should be for fun not for making a living

no i just grew up poor watching shit pbs shows while all my friends got to watch Spongebob and Courage the Cowardly Dog and spit the fact that u have to pay to get to enjoy pop culture. With modern technology and the easy of distributing data piracy is the most environmentally conscious way of consuming entertainment and therefore the most moral way of viewing tv and movies. Thief occurs when a victim loses property or money. downloading 1s and 0s onto a harddrive is not stealing! it is not bad in any way, since the people making most of these films are a bunch of pedo hollywood elite. better to keep ur money and donate it to ur local church or charity if u really want to get more credits for heaven. God isnt gonna be happy u paid for that netflix or movie ticket one bit bud, dont fool yourself!!

I think you may be correct in both of your theories. No moral person can take such a position. But having said that, he is not the first who seems to think artists should not be paid for their work. I've encountered a dozen or so who actually think it is immoral for an artist to expect payment.

Yup. Drives me nuts. People think that way all the time. It's gross. There are so many excuses given, too.
"Oh, they enjoy their job, so they've already been paid!" So what? So do a lot of people; enjoyment and job satisfaction doesn't mean it isn't work, and the value is what you're paying for.
"They should just get a better job!" They have a good job. You don't want to pay them. That's like saying you don't want to pay your electrician because if they electrician wanted to get paid he should get a better job. Your not wanting to pay doesn't make it right.

I've seen people say that anybody who says stuff like that or thinks artists should work for free should be forced to go without any art for a month. No music, movies, television, paintings, sculpture, live performance, books, comics, radio - zilch. Nothing. See how they feel at the end of it. Is art essential or not?
Because the cost of prosecuting this uploader is more than any potential revenue obtained.
Especially since this is in the Public Domain in the U.S. (According to wikipedia).
The movie is 100 years old. If it hasn't made its money back by now, that's on the film. Stop being a stoolie.

shareYeah, what is this idiocy? If there is a RESTORED version of the film, then the restoration might be copyright. A new soundtrack might be copyright. But how is the original version of Nosferatu copyright? This is the WRONG movie to use as a poster child for creators' rights and copyright.
Tip: If you are watching a version of the film with "Jonathan Harker" and "Dracula" mentioned in the inter-titles, it is the American release version and DEFINITELY not copyright.

Their solution: GET RID OF THE PUBLIC DOMAIN! YOU'RE PICKING MY POCKET!" You see exactly the same thing on YouTube. They are ALWAYS trying to slap copyrights on legitimately public domain recordings (American Armed Services recordings... Naxos, cough, cough) and then lining their pockets with the ad money that should be going to the YouTube creator. They use that the fact that they do indeed hold legitimate copyrights of OTHER versions of a piece (the "Moonlight Sonata" for instance) and use that as a platform to claim and gobble up ad revenue for ALL uses of this music. Oh, sure, you can appeal it, and probably win, but most people don't bother and they might likely BILLIONS a year in false copyright claims. Creators complain about stealing... fair enough. But what about corporations that administer the copyright royalties for these artists? Are they allowed to commit fraud on an industrial scale? Aren't they stealing from YouTube creators who are trying in good faith NOT to violate copyright?
