Gets hammered for her naivety..

So the Internet is dog-piling on Gadot and her famous actor friends for trying to cheer us up with a video with their warbly, screechy version of John Lennon's Imagine.

(Although Amy Adams and one or two others sound pretty good I think...)

The snark is pretty thick, some describing the stunt as tone deaf and condescending. Others say that donated money would made a better choice.

To be fair, I know that some of these actors have donated some of their wealth to charity... maybe not COVID specific... but people just wanna hate on them for their privilege I guess.

I hope Wonder Gal has a thick skin...

reply

I'm sure she's aware that the internet is a cesspool of hate.

I imagine it's water off a duck's back for her.

reply

"I know that some of these actors have donated some of their wealth to charity." I'm curious how do you know that? First hand knowledge? Or what you read/heard?

reply

No first hand knowledge. Just what I've read in obscure articles.

Mark Ruffalo is one that I know of although I forget his personal charity.

I suspect that many of them do w/o making a big deal of it.

reply

Thanks for confirming what I thought.

reply

Yeah, it's better for people to be charitable without making a big deal of it, instead of making a spectacle and practically shouting "LOOK AT ME!! I DONATE TO CHARITY!!!" like some tend to do.

reply

Bunch of spoilt clueless twerps, singing to a world that lives paycheck to paycheck, and which is missing out on paychecks.

Do they think the landlords are imagining "no possessions"?

reply

No idea why, on one hand, the same people that complain the world pays too much attention to celebrities turn around and expect actors and actresses to save the country with financial donations. They’re not THAT rich. People are just dumb I guess

reply

Actually, I wish they'd stop trying to "save the country", it's so annoying when they try. They're all talk and no donations, they ask people poorer than themselves to donate and then they congratulate themselves for "doing good".

And this video is even more irritating than usual, they're not even trying to do anything useful, just singing badly because they want attention, when they could be calling the interns and gofers who worked on their last film and asking if they can pay their rent.

reply

I don’t like the video either but it’s better than doing nothing. If we don’t like or believe it we just move on. Hopefully to something more important that deserves the attention and spite. Believe me they aren’t the problem. They’re pretty far down the food chain from what really matters. A handful of celebs doesn’t have the capital to put a dent in this problem. This problem is far more systematic than that.

reply

Oh, they aren't important in the big scheme of things, and are no more than annoying. But I always reserve the right to complain about small things that annoy me.

I mean, try and stop me.

reply

Stop! Or my mom will shoot.

reply

I never understood how and why the ice bucket challenge caught on for the time it did. Regardless of the results, it seemed like a huge "look at me" movement more than anyone moved by genuine charitable feelings.

reply

Patrick Stewart had the absolute best response to the Ice Bucket Challenge. There was a short video showing him writing out a check to the cause, and then grabbing some ice out of an bucket to put in his drink!

Everyone else, as you correctly pointed out, acted like attention-seeking twats.

reply

Indeed.

reply

There are times these ego megalomaniac celebrity's need to shut thier traps, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES, God people are terrified, struggling and wondering how in the world thier going to support themselves, but OH KNOW SOME CELEBRITYS ARE GOING WITHOUT ATTENTION oh well i better go and kiss thier asses for singing a god damn EFFING SONG for us.

the one and only good thing about all this is people are really showing thier true colours

oh and I'd really love to see these twits (imagine no possessions) mainly because they would probably rope themseves!

reply

The world will be a better place when people stop their idiot celebrity worship.

reply

it was cringe and misguided. the usual big lefty ones like ruffalo in his funky hipster specs all smiling and singing imagine and trying to look concerned when we all know they are all loaded beyond imagination and can afford to self isolate for 50 years if they wanted.. and everyone is scared shitless but oh look theres wonder woman and friends all singing and smiling and everythings better.

but yknow some will love it and think it was a great idea and others will hate it and see it for what it is

reply

Famous? I didn't recognize most of them. God awful singing to boot.

"Imagine", all those ivory tower assholes wanting all of us plebs to give up all of our possessions...
