I'm not a hypocrite and I would imagine that you strive not to be one. You are only guilty of not being in the know as to a certain aspect of your history. Not only did the Brits make cotton highly profitable but their government directly supported the Confederate effort. Not that they overtly supported slavery but did not want the consequences of a supply disruption that would put the empire on edge. Yes, Britain was getting cotton from other places such as Egypt but that was earmarked for fine linens, towels, and clothing for the elite class. Nothing was left to make materials for the commoners.
