Whatever happened to her?

She used to be on t.v. all the time and then she suddenly disappeared. I have read things that said she is in poor health, so that's probably why.

Who cares?

LOL.

She's semi-retired because she's in her 80s. Humans tend to slow down after they exceed 75 years of life. My parents are a testament to that change. It's odd because when my grandparents were alive I never looked at them as old or "slowed-down" but that's because they were already up there in age when I was a toddler/kid. With your parents it's different because you've known them since you were a child and they were young adults. That's kind of how I view Barbara's progression from active TV personality to someone who probably takes several naps throughout the day, so she's off the grid for the most part for sure!

87 actually.

Naps. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh..............

Rosie O'Donnell on Barbara Walters: “I don’t think she’s up to speaking to people now"

https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/rosie-odonnell-barbara-walters-isnt-up-to-speaking-to-people/

O'Donnell gave Us Weekly an update on the TV icon, who turned 90 last month while staying out of the public eye. “I don’t think she’s up to speaking to people now,” O'Donnell said. “I think she’s a wonderful woman, and it’s hard to age in America, never mind if you’re internationally famous.”

it’s hard to age in America

WTH is that supposed to mean? Is that a slam on the American health care system? I hope Rosie chooses to "age" elsewhere. I hear Siberia has excellent healthcare, fat ass Rosie.

https://okmagazine.com/news/barbara-walters-dementia-rumors-regis-philbin-death/

The death of veteran broadcaster Regis Philbin had most of Hollywood paying tribute to the talk show host, but noticeably one voice has not been heard – that of Barbara Walters.

Walters was a co-host on ‘The View’ from 1997 to 2014, and Philbin was a regular guest on the show. The pair had a bit of a strained relationship over the years, causing some awkward on-screen moments.

Friends, family and former co-workers of Philbin all paid tribute to him on social media shortly after his death was announced, but Walters hasn’t said a single word.

That has led to some speculation that Walters is being sheltered from the devastating news that Philbin has died.

The Twitter account of Walters hasn’t been updated since 25 September 2017, and the star’s Instagram account has been quiet since mid-2015.

Last year, it was reported that Walters has been left wheelchair-bound and hasn’t been seen in public for over 3 years following a diagnosis of advanced dementia.

It is now feared that if Walters found out that friend Philbin has died, she would slip into a deeper state of her illness – or worse!

At the time an insider told OK! that “Barbara suffers from exhaustion and fatigue, as well as anxiety and agitation.” The sources added that she “is very frail and spends a great deal of the day napping!”

In late 2019 a source confirmed that Walters isn’t doing so well.

“Sadly, her dementia has been getting worse. [Her] caretakers give her the opportunity to make everyday decisions, but more often than not she’ll stare at them blankly.”

It is rumored that her dementia is so advanced that she didn’t recognize Whoopi Goldberg. So, it is very possible that Walters might have been told about Philbin’s death, but she simply didn’t know who they were talking about.

“There is a chance that Barbara doesn’t know about the passing of Regis,” a source told OK!

Wasn’t so sudden. She started doing less and less The View, interviews etc during the 2000s but did some projects as she wished. She is 90 years old now.

Here is the Wikipedia:

Her final on-air interview was of presidential candidate Donald Trump for ABC News in December 2015.

Walters last appeared publicly in 2016.

She couldn't make up her mind whether she wanted to be Barry Manilow or Barbara Walters, so after years
of exhausting wardrobe changes (but keeping the same hair and makeup), she just stuck with being
Barry Manilow.

She's happy, and still sells out concert halls.

I don't believe everything I read about BW. She might be ok mentally, just concerned about falling. Not uncommon. Not surprised she isn't a public profile figure and for her sake I hope she has a few close friends as I don't think she's had a family relationship in years.
Her career was always the overwhelming concern.

All I know is I listened to a prank call show on Youtube where they prank called Rosie and she was actually really cool to them despite them being a bunch of assholes. During the call someone asked about getting BW's phone number and Rosie said "She's really unwell" which to me made it sound like she's mentally incapable of holding a conversation. Maybe I just read into it wrong but you can listen to it here: https://youtu.be/oBqmO3EDWCI?t=2225
