Musicians boycotting Spotify

From an article in Globe & Mail today. Plus two nobodies from Canada not worth mentioning.

Neil Young
Joni Mitchell
Nils Lofgren
UPDATE
Graham Nash
India Arie

David Crosby would have but he sold his rights. Oops!

reply

Who the fuck is Nils Lofgren? Also, I bet none of these muppets even watched the podcast (Dr. Robert Malone) that they are up in arms about. They are just boot-licking puppets following orders.

reply

Along with his work as a solo artist, he has been a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band since 1984, a member of Crazy Horse, and founder/frontman of the band Grin.

reply

So basically just old people cause they're the most vulnerable. XD

Not a single young artist are pulling it so they either agree with him with their silence or they care about the statue quo aka MONAY MOANY MONAY $$$.

reply

I agree with your observation. In my opinion, a great deal of the motivation for covid lockdowns comes from terrified senior citizens who could care less about the harm they impart to younger people still finding their way in the world.

reply

It’s just scared entitled boomers for the most part.

reply

Don't know any of them beside Neil Young but then again I don't even know much of his songs either since I never listened to them.

reply

yeah Neil Young is just a famous name i hear old people say but i could not name u one song he made....

reply

This is where Saliari/Neil Young plays "Sweet Home Alabama" on the piano and the young folks suddenly snap their fingers and say, "I've heard of that!"

reply

yeah sweet home alabamer is just a lame versions of that badass West Virginia Country Roads song

reply

Nils Lofgren is a good musician but I had never heard of any of his songs. The songs are well-written but none of them stand out. I remember "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World" by Neil Young in the eighties but I believe most of his hits were from the sixties and seventies. I had never heard of Joni Mitchell but her song "Big Yellow Taxi" was sampled by Janet Jackson and Counting Crows did a cover. Joni Mitchell had a great voice and her old hits still sound good.

reply

Neil Young wants a world where you are free as long as you agree with him.

And the ruthless corporations that he does business with and profits from. He has no problem taking money from Blackrock or encouraging people to switch to Amazon.

I mean, I still use Amazon but I'm not posturing like I'm taking a stand for leftist principals like he is either.

reply

He doesn't need the streaming money. He sold half his catalog for $150M and he's married to Darryl Hannah.

reply

Neil Young was once a musician for whom I had tremendous respect. I still consider his greatest work from the 70s to be in the pantheon of rock n' roll (Tonight's the Night and Rust Never Sleeps, especially). But now he's promoting ignorance while purporting to fight it.

reply

I'll have to check those albums out. Some of his mellow stuff like Heart of Gold is really good. I always preferred fast music for working out and driving BUT I'm not going very fast anymore.

reply

So a couple of has-beens are trying to get woke to grab a few moments back in the spotlight. Nothing new and nobody cares. Notice nobody relevant in the last several decades actually gives a shit.

reply

I find plausible the theory that Grandpa Young is being an idiot on the Joe Rogan issue to curry favor with his younger squeeze, Daryl Hannah, who is known to be a zealous liberal activist. Her pet issues pertain to the environment and I respect her conviction, but Neil Young is throwing punches in the dark at someone he obviously knows nothing about. Young's motivation could center completely on continued access to Hannah's coochie.

reply

That's very possible. It could definitely be a "yes honey" situation.

reply

Lol! I have a Neil Young double album I received back in the early 90s from BMG disc club. Still wrapped in it’s cellophane, unopened. The guys voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

reply

That album would make a good coaster for at least 4-5 drinks.

reply

It might fetch $100 on ebay because of the vinyl craze.

reply

Graham Nash and India.Arie now.

Before any of the cultured intellectuals here ask who India.Arie is:

She has sold over 5 million records in the US and 10 million worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards from her 23 nominations, including Best R&B Album.

reply

Those artists are so Woke they canceled themselves!

reply

Crosby, Stills & Nash; Crosby & Nash; and Stills-Young Band are withdrawing all of their albums.

Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) was a folk rock supergroup made up of American singer-songwriters David Crosby and Stephen Stills, and English singer-songwriter Graham Nash. They are noted for their lasting influence on American music and culture.
