shareI think they were married to Nazis. Ironically, his mom helped hide Jews in Greece.
shareIt is important to remember that it was very difficult to not be a Nazi in Germany at the time.
So I don't blame Philip's brothers-in-law for that.
They were just doing what seemed to be the most sensible thing for them at the time.
I believe that you made a mistake about Philip's mother though.
She saved some Jews from the Nazis and was praised for this after the war.
Yes, obviously she meant Jews. But your point that it's okay to be a Nazi in Germany is wrong. Especially since you just don't say so, you have to believe in Naziism which they did. If you think that's okay so be it.
shareYou seem to forget that in a dictatorship, there will be no room for disenters.
So you can't expect everybody to belong to some illegal resistence movement.
Many people want to just stay safe and keep their families safe.
Also, what is correct or not will vary between generations and countries.
You can't be sure that you wouldn't have been a Nazi if you lived in Nazi Germany.
An article on the BBC has:
"His four older sisters would all marry Germans. While Philip fought for Britain in the Royal Navy, three of his sisters actively supported the Nazi cause; none would be invited to his wedding." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50589065
Which sounds a little more than going with the flow and keeping your head down.
Yes, I would, being of Jewish descent. But I believe only evils Germans were Nazis, and yes, the rest went along, and the few heroes resisted. Just like in the US only evil Americans were hardcore Conald supporters. But let's not go there.
shareI sure did, I edited it, thanks.
shareSeems like it's impossible not to be one in 2021 America. No matter what you say or do, someone says you're Hitler.
