Yes, a brilliant performance. I think a best supporting actress oscar would not have been a bit out of line, but her performance speaks for itself with all awards aside. It's such a difficult role, trying to convey all the complex emotions of a trauma survivor without a single line. I wept during all of her scenes. For an altogether different performance, but still very good, watch the BBC's "He Knew He Was Right." It's a shame actors like these don't get more mainstream recognition in the States. Somebody should start taking roles away from Keira Knightly and toss a couple Laura's way. I love Knightly too, I just think she's starting to corner all the British and period movie roles that are intended for major American distribution, while talented people like Fraser are left in the dust. While Knightly is devestatingly sexy, I don't think she could have done what Fraser did with this part. She dosn't have enough of the wounded flower aura about her.
