We don't know what's wrong with her, "medicated bipolar disorder" is only a guess.

Because yes it's true that a typical person with bipolar disorder doesn't qualify for a long-term conservatorship, whether or not they're medicated correctly, or able to run their own lives without disaster. For a person to be conserved they have to have some sort of long-term disabling mental illness that makes them unable to care for themselves even when getting medical treatment, most adults with conservators are seniors with dementia, people with very low intelligence, or schizophrenics. She may be schizophrenic, she may have bipolar disorder along with some other factor that makes her unable to run her own life, it may be something else entirely, but a court has found that she can't function as an adult and they know the details and we don't.

The whole "Free Britney" thing worries me, I mean it's natural that people sympathize with Britney for being under conservatorship and I bet Britney herself doesn't like it one bit... but that doesn't mean she can run her own life. Feelings aren't the only things that matter, things that are right and necessary don't necessarily make us happy, but that does't mean they aren't right or necessary.
