She made a lot of bad TV (no disprespect)

When I looked at her filmography, I was struck by all the failed TV series.

I guess her really great show overshadow all that.

In retrospect, I think her original series still had more life, as Mary implied later in a Tv interview, as if she regretted quitting the series

The fact the series went out on top is one of the things I love about it. People say 'Roseanne' - another favorite of mine - jumped the shark with its final season, but really the show peaked long before then.

More than anything else, I wish Moore had a more lasting career on the silver screen. At least she made one fantastic film as opposed a long line of forgettable ones.

Of course, all careers have their ups and downs:

I didn't see all her failed shows, but her two great hits had great ensemble casts. Of course Dick Van Dyke and the rest of the cast of that show were very good. It is even more striking that almost everyone from the MTM show went on to success in another show in which they played an equally or more prominent role. This is not universally true of the casts of long-running popular shows. Most of the cast of M*A*S*H for instance has not done anything very noteworthy in later years, even if they continued to work. And Carl Reiner, Alan Burns and James L. Brooks really made those shows, along with other fine writers. I don't know about the people who produced/wrote the rest of MTM's shows.

She was attractive and talented and people loved her, but I wouldn't say she was captivating on her own. She needed the right vehicle. She might have been able to do more work as a dramatic actress if her career had gone that way.

I think the worst was her variety show right after she ended her sitcom - I remember that show for being so awful (and I was about 15 then).

Her variety show really wasn't that bad. It showed how excellent a dancer she was, and that's not easy to do at 41-42. She also could sing; the show showcased that talent of hers too. Michael Keaton and David Letterman were funny. It was a good stepping stone for their careers, however short-lived it was. And frankly, she and the ensemble cast were funny. No, it wasn't laugh-out-loud humor like you might find on Saturday Night Live at the time, but the sketches at least made me smile. I certainly wasn't cringing.

Ironic, though, that two of the actors from that failed show- Michael Keaton and David Letterman- became huge stars in their own right.
