Streep is the better actress imo. Streep should have won the Oscar in 2009 for "Doubt"
The reason Winslet beat Streep that year is that the Academy likes to spread the wealth around. Streep had already won some Oscars while Winslet at the time had zero
Streep has more experience so most are going to say she's the better actress. In 20 years they'll probably be saying the same thing about Kate when comparing her to the up and comers.
shareWinslet has made some poor choices of roles over the years, and when miscast she can give a below par performance (I don't recall ever seeing her given an actively bad one). To be fair, we can say the same thing about Streep.
When the role fits, Winslet can be exceptionally good - but Streep is a tough comparison, a truly iconic artist.
Streep, Deniro, and all the other big mouths ruin themselves for me. I just can't watch them, knowing what awful people they are.
