I find your reply very interesting and I think many people - even fans like yourself - share that conception of his acting. That might explain why he simply doesn't have the status he has earned. I respect your opinion and your arguments, but I just don't agree. Michael struggled for a long time to get out of his father's shadow, especially in the beginning of his career. He didn't even think himself he deserved to be considered a quality Star and didn't realize he had the potential to get as good or even better than his iconic father. His co-star in the Streets of San Fransisco Karl Malden helped him believe in himself and find his own path. And he did: Wall Street - Oscar winner and what an unforgettable performance, Liberace - convincingly gay without overacting, Fatal Attraction - Wow I have seen it 30 times - the Victim but in a nuanced manner, Perfect Murder - the ice cold, yet subtle vilain, War of the Roses - dramatic black comedy played to perfection, I could go on and on and I find his range is undeniable. The perception of " the good old Michael" in all his roles is IMO mistaken for recognizable quality and the special Michael charisma he always brings out in his performance. Well that's how I feel about it😊
