Somehow Michael is underrated or

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same way?

In my opinion he's without a doubt in the Top Five of living Hollywood actors, but somehow he doesn't quite get the same recognition as other super A-List Stars such as Robert de Niro, Al Pacino or Jack Nicholson. But he IS a HUGE Star and has never ever made a bad performance. I just think he deserves to be put up there where he rightfully belongs.

I compare Michael Douglas to Jeff Bridges. They both have been stars in their own right even though they grew up in the shadows of their fathers fame. Almost every movie they've made has been good, sometimes even blockbusters. I'd say the one problem with Michael is he's almost always the heavy and really has little range. Yes, good movies but always the same ole' Michael. Still, what he's accomplished is very impressive and I'm a big fan of his.

Since fucking WHEN did Jeff Bridges grow up “in the shadow” of Lloyd Bridges?!!! What the fuck is stupid about you? I loved Lloyd Bridges. He was my hero when he starred in the TV series Sea Hunt when I was 10. He is the reason why I became SCUBA certified at 12; but Lloyd NEVER achieved as much as Jeff. Ever! The Fabulous Baker Boys? Tron: Legacy?! The fucking DUDE?! Please, fuck off.

I find your reply very interesting and I think many people - even fans like yourself - share that conception of his acting. That might explain why he simply doesn't have the status he has earned. I respect your opinion and your arguments, but I just don't agree. Michael struggled for a long time to get out of his father's shadow, especially in the beginning of his career. He didn't even think himself he deserved to be considered a quality Star and didn't realize he had the potential to get as good or even better than his iconic father. His co-star in the Streets of San Fransisco Karl Malden helped him believe in himself and find his own path. And he did: Wall Street - Oscar winner and what an unforgettable performance, Liberace - convincingly gay without overacting, Fatal Attraction - Wow I have seen it 30 times - the Victim but in a nuanced manner, Perfect Murder - the ice cold, yet subtle vilain, War of the Roses - dramatic black comedy played to perfection, I could go on and on and I find his range is undeniable. The perception of " the good old Michael" in all his roles is IMO mistaken for recognizable quality and the special Michael charisma he always brings out in his performance. Well that's how I feel about it😊

I do think you make some great observations about Michael's career. He's been great in roles thru at least 5 decades. I'm not sure it's fair to compare him with Pacino or Nicholson as they've blown people away in academy award performances among others. Still, I acknowledge that Pacino has slipped in recent years and wow, so has DeNiro. Michael never really declined in quality imo. Also, I am glad that Michael won an AFI lifetime achievement award as he certainly has had an impact that can't be denied. Hopefully he has more great roles in his future!

Thank you for your nice comments to me and I find your posts really interesting. I just wanted to mention an obvious Oscar nomination snub for his demanding role in Falling Down - no doubt about it. I don't mean to compare Michael with Robert de Niro, Jack Nicholson or Al Pacino. I don't think it's even possible to compare those super stars with anyone and each of these immortal actors is one of a kind. The reason why I mentioned their names was my listing in the Top five of living movie stars (in no particular order) and the two remaining names are Daniel Day Lewis - and Michael Douglas. Some of them have had unforgettable performances but also delivered under par in bad movies a few times. One might argue that MIchael has not had iconic roles, but what for me makes him so worthy is his consistency when it comes to giving a convincing and really good performance in entertaining movies, not sometimes or most times, but every time. Daniel Day Lewis is in a league of his own and his career speaks for itself. Like you I really hope more good roles are in store for Michael🙂

His marriage which is fine caused media gossip and that in many ways took away from his career. They have proved everyone wrong by still being together.
