The John Oates of food

Just as with Daryl Hall and John Oates, there are many famous food pairings out there phrased as _____ and _____. (Example: Macaroni and cheese) Whenever there is a well-known pair involved, someone or something always has to come second. 😞

Today, let's reverse those orders and let the John Oateses of the food world come first! I'll start.

Cheese and macaroni

reply

Jelly and peanut butter

Pepper and salt

Cheese and wine

Eggs and bacon

Cream with coffee

Can't think of any others

Oh yes, Crackers and cheese

That's it

reply

Great job JT! You came up with so many good combinations so fast, I'd say you "Did it in a Minute"!

reply

Well, I'm actually a "PRivate Eye"

and they're watching me!

LOL, thanks, happy to contribute to your thread.

reply

😁

reply

Chips and Fish.

reply

I was hoping to see this famous UK dish in this thread! Enjoyable not only because it is delicious, but because you don't have to worry about the fish taking out a restraining order on the chips.

reply

Plus it’s Friday.

reply

A Gordon Ramsey Fish & Chips opened in a casino here in Downtown Reno (short walk for me). Haven't been yet and now I really need to go...

reply

Fish!

And

Chips!

reply

The only time I ever use malt vinegar!

I really enjoy this show :https://www.nationalgeographic.com/pages/topic/gordon-ramsay-uncharted

So much like this: https://www.max.com/shows/anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown/ddf35f20-7bc1-4b79-9133-4d1e3ff8ff55

There's a lifestyle I'm envious of.

reply

While I watch those I will be engaging in -

reply

I remember that show, used to watch it also on occasion. What do you mean by engaging in?

reply

I will sipping champagne and eating caviar

reply

So, you're that well off also?

reply

I wish I had a dime for every dime I have.

reply

Squeak and bubble.

reply

I learned about this dish from watching The Wind in the Willows. Mr. Toad ate bubble and squeak.

The last Hall&Oates concert I went to sounded like a lot of bubbling and squeaking, too. Daryl's voice ain't what it used to be.

reply

I saw them in β€˜Sunny’ Bournemouth about 8 years ago. Daryl Hall was in fine voice.

reply

I saw them 7 years ago in 2018. Maybe within the year between you seeing them and me, John Oates punched him in the throat.

Really, it was quite bad. 😬

reply

Bits 'n Kibbles.

[none]

reply

I thought for sure you'd say carrots and peas.

[I can't go for that. No. No can do.]

reply

Taxes and death.

reply

It seems you may be a little "Out of Touch" with the definition of food.

reply

Franklin's original quote was food for thought.

I believe that is checkmate.

reply

Say it isn't so!

Are you impressed by how I'm holding together this thread consisting of two completely different topics?

reply

Honestly, I didn't think you'd ever recover from your Maroon 5 topic.

reply

You act like that thread should have left me red in the face.

reply

I'm going to ask you one question. It will help me determine if you are samoanjoes or not.

What is your opinion of the musical group KISS?

reply

Are you saying that there could only be one poster on a message board for whom clever turn of phrase is their butter and bread?

reply

Refusal to answer question noted.

Secondary question, Kirk or Picard?

reply

Why are you asking me to compare oranges and apples?

reply

Final question - Mark Messier, greatest hockey player ever or greatest hockey player alive?

reply

Excuse the long pause. I'm waiting for Hall& Oates to write a song about hockey.

reply

Stompin' Tom beat them to it:

reply

You are a treasure trove of unusual songs.

I have decided I will answer your questions and you can decide for yourself if I am samoanjoes or not.

1. I do not have a strong opinion either way of KISS. Their music (that I've actually heard) neither offends me nor excites me. But I do like the song Beth.

2. The only full Star Trek episode I've ever watched is that one where Kirk fights the Gorn. Kirk throws a big rock at the Gorn. Or does the Gorn throw the rock at Kirk? πŸ€” And at the end of the episode a man dressed in a sequiny silver dress from the planet of the Mentos arrives. Or maybe that's another episode.

3. I've heard of Mark Messier. And of course Wayne Gretzky. I know there's a team called the Philadelphia Flyers.

Well that should pretty much answer any questions you have.

reply

The real samoanjoes would be unable to refrain from insulting KISS, loves Picard in a creepy way and has no sense of what makes a legendary hockey player. You appear to be you.

I apologize for derailing your topic. It will happen again.

reply

I'll hold you to it.

reply

You got chocolate on my peanut butter!!

reply

This clip was made for this thread! πŸ˜€

Do you think the director knew it at the time?

reply

Cream & peaches
Cream cheese & bagel
Meatballs & spaghetti

reply

Excellent! John Oates would be proud. I think.

reply

Daryl Hall hates little Oates now!

reply

Yeah. It's too bad. Kind of feels like he's pooping on my childhood.
