Before Christmas, I texted a coworker a funny yet crude Christmas picture, she doesn’t like and tells the boss. He pulls me aside for it one day, saying he’d fire me if I did something like that again. I didn’t know sending the pic would’ve gotten me into trouble.

Gotta know your audience. You can text funny, crude pictures to friends you know will appreciate that humour. But to someone you describe as a 'coworker' rather than a friend, or just generally in a work context, it's never wise.
I receive dozens of jokes everyday from all over the world on WhatsApp, but I still vet them before sending them to my friends

I was in a shop about six months ago, and there was a woman giving another woman hell's abuse for being Polish. Me and a couple of other customers swung our heads around to look disapprovingly at it -- and the Polish woman just said 'It's fine. She's my best mate. We always talk to each other this way. It's just jokes. It's hilarious.'
And we all went 'Oh, thank god for that. You do you.'
You gotta know what's going to go down OK with people and what isn't. It's all about context.
