What do you think of recent Hollywood films?

I think films were better before, more memorable. Take the Tom Clancy films. The first three were great but everything after stunk. Anime is the same way with classics like Akira and Ninja Scroll but everything after is more bland. Baseball has more interesting players in the 80s 90’s. Also, the Houston Oilers and the Run and Shoot were the pinnacle of NFL.

I want then to be good , but I just cant remember any good ones in the last decade .

reply

Well, I prefer not to get into the "Oh it was so much better then" type of thinking.

For me, there are a ton of start and stops.

I may have to go thru 10-15 new releases (meaning 2020s releases) to find one I stick with.

Does this mean recent Hollywood films are bad? Not necessarily.

Could mean one is getting older, thus more and more out of touch.

Almost all dogshit. Woke crap made increasingly by incompetent diversity hires. Entire genres like comedy and thrillers totally abandoned by Hollywood.

I just hope theatres don’t completely die out before Hollywood wakes up and realises that we need more Top Gun Mavericks and no more Glass Onions.

reply

Still some really enjoyable stuff coming, this past year I quite enjoyed Civil War, Longlegs, Gladiator 2 and Nosferatu.

reply

Wokesploitation is ruining films and shows.

Diversity is good (except for the illogical and pointless race/gender/swapping of white characters when adapting a source material).

But woke storylines are tiresome.

And Hollywood (especially Disney) hijacking popular franchises trying to shove those storylines down our throats is the worst.

Thankfully, it looks like they may go away soon.

Hollywood is realizing the so-called “modern audience” isn’t buying tickets or watching their shows.

And they can’t keep hemorrhaging money.

reply

you do know Wolverine And Deadpool ,Dune Part 2,Rogue One, Alien Romulus, Top Gun Maverick have been Apolitical and are some of the highest grossing you post is not entirely true .

reply

What does that have to do with my post?

reply

Rogue One and Romulus were both woke.

reply

No they weren’t.

Just having female and diverse cast and characters doesn’t make them woke, except — again — for the illogical and pointless race/gender/swapping of white characters when adapting a source material.

It’s when the story is about them being female and/or diverse and having to deal with sexism and/or racism that makes them woke.

Woke ideology can insert itself into a film in various ways. Here’s why Alien Romulus is woke…

reply

The two things you posted don’t make it woke.

Woke would be if the entire film centered on the woke agenda.

That’s just two very minor points.

reply

They are woke aspects in the film and they make the film ‘woke’.

There are more woke films and less woke films, but Romulus is still woke.

reply

Reread my previous reply.

reply

No, once was enough. You were wrong and re-reading it won’t change that.

reply

LMAO....YOU RASCAL!

reply

So putting aside the illogical and pointless race/gender/swapping etc,

What are the woke storylines?

reply

It’s when the story is about them being female and/or diverse and having to deal with sexism and/or racism.

When they try to preach a social lesson using a sledgehammer and villains are usually white men.

One of the worst is Interceptor: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14174940/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

The plot involves diverse characters led by a diverse woman (who was subjected to sexual harassment by an old white guy) saving America from white people led by a spoiled rich white kid with a racist/sexist redneck sidekick.

It's a left wing wet dream.

What did you think of that Charlize Theron Berlin spy thing ?
"Atomic Blonde"

reply

Great action and I like her a lot.

I’m a big fan of non-woke female-led action films if the actress fits the role and she usually does.

I don’t remember much about the story though.

I remember it wasn’t that interesting.

What did you think?

One of my favorite female-led action films is The Long Kiss Good Night with Genna Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.

Fun movie with lots of great action scenes and an enjoyable story.

I also love Aliens with Sigourney Weaver and enjoyed Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie and the Resident Evil films with Milla Jovovich.
