What makes the McRib so popular?
It's basically the food the lunch lady served you as bbq while in school. I have a theory the only people who like it don't live in towns with real BBq.

shareSometimes pretend food is fun.
I certainly can't figure it out why it's so popular, but it is. It tastes terrible, but whatever
shareI know what a McRib is made of but I find them delicious. I always get a couple of McRibs when they are available.
shareit taste great
shareReal bbq is better
shareTotally agree!!!
But for something quick and different this works
I agree too but once and awhile you just want a taste of something different, in particular if you're new in town (traveling through, or on business), and don't know what's good.
Once I business I ordered (4) and ate two one night, and left two in the fridge for the next night. I had not had one in several years, and figured it would be several more in the future... and so far it's been twice that.
I was not proud, and did not feel good about it, but my company was happy with my minimal expense report!
mcdonalds is garbage
shareBecause…
Hamburger is the jock, the main character.
Big Mac is his fat loudmouth comedy friend.
McChicken Sandwich is his gf, the prom queen.
McSalad Shakers are the cheerleaders.
Chicken Nuggets are the new kids.
McRib? He’s the cool dude who left years ago but keeps coming back, like McConaughey in Dazed & Confused. Everyone loves him!
Great analogy.👍
share😂 THAT'S GOOD.

I've never had one, so I can't comment specifically, but if they're indeed popular sellers, then it's got to be either the price or the taste.
I noticed some comments comparing a McRib to real BBQ, and that's not the point at all. I've had really really good BBQ, but I doubt anyone who was hankering for real BBQ would go for a McRib. That doesn't mean that even fans of quality BBQ would not buy a McRib.
A couple of examples: when I am in the mood for a burger, I use ground grass fed chuck of approx 85% my local butcher grinds for me which I loosely hand pack and grill on my propane grill. But, I've had fast food burgers and while they aren't in the same league as a good burger, they still make a tasty meat based sandwich.
When I want chocolate, i buy really good 65% from a local chocolatier. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a handful of waxy Hershey kisses on occasion.
Even though I love Chicken McNuggets and I have seen the gross process of how they're made, the McRib has always crossed some line of disgustingness for me. I've never eaten one and I don't think I ever could. Maybe it's because I don't live far from the barbecue capital of the world, but I think it's really just because it looks gross.
