Anyone Planning to Pay $5 for a MegaMillion Ticket?

The price will rise from $2 to $5.

I think it's a dumb move. Office pools buy a significant amount of tickets which they'll less likely to do.

I stopped buying as much when the price was raised from a $1 to $2.

The lottery said it wants a bigger jackpot. I bet the odds will rise also or barely improve. Increase begins April 2025. No thanks.

How about you? What are your thoughts?

reply

That's dumb. I will definitely play less now.

Signed, million man.

reply

Powerball will remain at $2 for now, but I bet eventually it'll rise to $5, also.

reply

for one tkt? that dumb. I will occasionally buy 10 bucks worth every month or so. the most I ever won so far was $7.

reply

Same here but I play twice a week and never win more that 7 bucks.

Signed, million man.

reply

I think lottery is dumb.

reply

It's a regressive tax on the poor.

reply

Well, to be fair it is a choice, not a tax.

reply

and a self-imposed tax on the mathematically challenged. Even on lottery tickets, they'll show you the odds of just winning your money back.

Perfect...Love it!

reply

only if you lose.

reply

Overwhelming number of people lose.

reply

you cant win if you dont play.

reply

I read where the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes has even higher odds of winning.

reply

But that's a free entry.

reply

True. I was so focused on the odds, I forgot about that.

reply

Which you will.

reply

story of my life.

reply

Hey, who can argue with a more efficient way to throw your money away?

reply

I hear buying a boat is a pretty efficient way of throwing large amounts of money away :D

reply

The two happiest moments for a boat owner: -
The day you buy it.
The day you sell it.

Since my husband and I only play the lottery once every few years and it's just something whimsical we do for fun, we'll probably continue to do it when the mood strikes. I doubt we've played it more than five times over 25 years. For those who play it frequently though that is quite the price increase!
