they never say goodbye

in movies and series every cell phone conversation ends with someone hanging the phone on the other person's face. Look it up, they never say "bye" , "talk to you later", "i love you honey bear", what is up with that ?

Yeah, that always strikes me as odd. It doesn’t cost a dime to be polite on the phone. It’s weird, I’d have a beef with that caller next time I talked to them.

I'm glad it's not just me that is bothered by this. I always say goodbye before I get off the phone and I don't understand people just hanging up. My grandfather did that to me once probably 35 years ago or more and I remember it to this day.

Yeah, it’s strange how some people think it’s ok to end a call like that. It always makes me wonder if they treat everyone in that fashion.

I will also say I really dislike how some people answer the phone by saying “yeah.” Who does that?!

reply

Same! I've always thought that seemed rude. I've noticed tough guys on TV answering the phone that way but it just sounds like they're mad somebody called.

reply

They always turn the TV off too. As soon as the movie characters have heard the headline news , which is important and pivotal to their plight , they turn the TV off rather than wait for any further details.

Iknow people IRL who just hang up without a closing salutation/ signoff.

Check if you're living in a movie

reply

HaHa It does feel that way sometimes

It's also weird that the person that's hung up on never has a reaction to it and always seem to expect it when it's not the norm. If one character hangs up on another and the other was still talking into the phone, assuming the first person was still on the line, it would at least make it more realistic.

I was watching The Brady Bunch the other night and when Carol was on the phone she did say "goodbye" when she finished her call. I was surprised because as you say they never say goodbye.
