"Verifying you are human"

I just got this page when I clicked on a thread link here:

I've never seen that before here, and I've been here since about day one. I wonder if it's part of the changes Jim is making in order to fix the connection problems here. As of right now, this site is running as fast or faster than I've ever seen; pages are loading instantly. Who knows if that will last though.

maybe it WILL keep all the stupid internet bots from posting

Now I understand how John Merrick feel.

Best of all, all the ads are gone!

That's probably what actually fixed the connection problems here. I don't see how the "verifying you are human" thing could have anything to do with it, since this site worked fine the vast majority of the time for 7 years without the "verifying you are human" thing. It's also turning out to be more obnoxious than I yet realized when I started this thread, since it does it every time you haven't clicked on a link here for a certain, and not very long, amount of time, even though you're still logged in and obviously still just as human as you were 20 minutes ago or however long it takes for it to think your human status has expired.

If the "verifying you are human" thing is, for whatever reason, deemed necessary, it should only need to be done once for any given device / IP address.

The connection problems of the past couple of weeks were probably caused, at least in part, by shady/misbehaving ad servers (I'm looking at you, Taboola).

the verify thing pops up for every page I go on with my laptop, so thats not going to work for me.

It beats the two minute lags and page drops though, I’d call it a huge improvement👍

MC is fast as a Corvette now.

I'm on my tablet now. My laptop was saying that on every single page I went on with every post. Assume it's because my laptop's old and maybe doesn't have an updated browser Not much I can do about that.

I cant make new posts anymore.

I had the same problem. I couldn't create threads or log in to MovieChat but after some investigation I realized it's my browser that was the problem. I use Opera on my phone but when I tried using Firefox I no longer have any problems here. Just a suggestion but maybe try a different browser.

The fact that they're verifying our identity makes me think we were cyber attacked.

reply

I agree. I have my suspicions from whence it came 🤔

reply

It's not rocket science. I was Admin there and I know how it operates.

Both mods seemed to think so as well. But I don't know... seems like alot of trouble for no rewards

Signed, million man.

The cyber attacker? They were trying to take down the competition and they did get a few to post there.
