What is a movie that you would like to see in a theatre again, or one that you didn't get to see but would like to?

reply

"Magnolia" and "Aliens" are in my top 10 films list and I always wanted to see them on the big screen.

reply

Thanks

Apocalypse
Now

The helicopter /Flight of the Valkyrie scene alone would be worth the price of admission

reply

"Aliens" 👍

reply

Funny you should ask that! I’m racing home from work to shower and head to the theater with my girls and friends for Come and See (1985).

reply

Just saw Back to the Future on Friday. It was a lot more fun to see in a theatre with other people. Although, I don't think Come and See could be considered fun.

reply

Back to the Future would definitely be a good one to see in the theater.

reply

I saw "Back to the future " about a year ago or so in the theater, always funny.

reply

A real popcorn film, huh?
Yeah, listen, prepare for a depressing time at the movies with your loved ones.

I’m prepared and have seen it many times but never on the big screen. My girls are college age and their friends are also so they know what they are getting into. :)

reply

I think it's wholesome that you like to spend time with your adult children at the theatre. You're a good man, mojo.

reply

A middle age guy going out with a bunch of college girls. That's weird, not sure about wholesome. 😄

reply

Nothing wrong with it. At least they know they're safe.

reply

Safe, yes. I'm 100% sure nothing will happen.

reply

Yep. I feel like I must have done something right along the way when they still like to hang out with me when they are in college. 😊

reply

Yes. Very wholesome, Mr Mojo.

reply

So, at what age did your parents abandon you?

reply

We're talking about young women, I don't remember my dad ever going out with my sister's 18 year old friends. 😄

reply

I’ll be sure and let my daughters know that the next time we go to the movies, they are not allowed to bring any friends. Especially not the one who did a report in school on the film we went to see. Give it a break, dude. Lol

reply

Of course. It's always a good thing when your kids don't think they're too cool to hang out with you.

reply

Damn right 👍

reply

President Evil?

Signed, million man.

reply

Yeah, probably not.

I'm looking for films that will bring people to the theatre not drive them away. 🤣

reply

Well I can't help you then. I only go to the theater for Saw movies. Everything else can wait.

Signed, million man.

There used to be a lot of movies I wanted to see in the theater, but then I got an HD projector in 2017 and I haven't been to the theater, not have I cared about seeing a movie in a theater, ever since.

My screen isn't as big as a movie theater screen, but it's more than big enough for the size of my room and the viewing distance, and since it's a projected image it has the same look as in a movie theater (i.e., you're looking at reflected light rather than directly at a light source like with a direct-view TV). And there are none of the downsides of going to a theater, such as getting stuck with a bad seat, not being able to pause the movie or control the volume, people lighting up their cell phones, talking, paying for an overpriced ticket, etc.

reply

Well, what would be a movie that you enjoy seeing in your home theatre?

reply

The main ones I wanted to see in the theater before I got a projector were the Star Wars movies (original trilogy, theatrical cuts) the Rocky movies, especially III and IV, and The Terminator. I've watched those on my projector and a lot more, mostly 1980s movies that I've liked since I was a kid.

The most fun ones to watch are the Star Wars movies, because I have unofficial transfers made from well-worn 35mm theatrical film prints, full of dust, scratches, and film grain. It feels like being in a second-run theater way back when with film prints that have months' worth of wear and tear on them. Here's a screenshot from The Empire Strikes Back:

You don't get the effect without seeing it in motion though. This will give you an idea of what it looks like in motion, albeit with drastically reduced resolution (the actual resolution is 1080p):

That's at the start of a new reel, which always has the most wear and tear. Most of the movie looks more like this:

I did see Empire and Return in the theatre in the 80s. I didn't see Star Wars as I was too young. Pretty soon there won't be anyone left who remembers the theatrical cuts of them. It's awesome that you have copies of them.

reply

We're probably about the same age then. I was two years old when Star Wars was released. I was old enough to see The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in theaters (most of my friends did) but I never did.

I never saw a movie in the theater until 1987 when my older brother got his driver's license. Before that, our parents had no interest in taking us to the theater, and the nearest one was about a half-hour drive each way. There used to be a theater in my hometown; a nice old-fashioned one no less, but it burned down shortly before I was born and it was never rebuilt.

reply

I saw Return at both the theatre and the Drive-In.

reply

The first time I went to a drive-in theater was in 1999. It was a double feature with Payback and The General's Daughter. I don't remember much about the latter, but Payback was awesome and became one of my all-time favorite movies (the theatrical cut only; the director's cut is a very different movie).

It's a nice place. The parking area is grass and it's completely surrounded by woods. Here are a few pictures I took there while waiting for it to get dark:

It would be a great place to watch a horror movie, especially one of the ones with a camp/woods setting like Friday the 13th (1980). I've only seen one horror movie there, What Lies Beneath (2000), which isn't much of a horror movie IMO, but the girl I was with screamed and grabbed me a couple times during it.

reply

The last drive-in theatre in my city closed in 1995. I worked at the other one we had the last year it was open in 1994 and that was a blast.

reply

Ever since I saw the movie Christine (1983) when I was a kid, I'd wanted to go to a drive-in theater when it was raining, but for years it refused to rain whenever I was at the drive-in theater. It finally happened in 2013. It's always a double-feature there and the movies playing that night were The Lone Ranger and World War Z. Both movies were forgettable, but it rained pretty hard the whole time I was there, which was awesome.

reply

Lynch's Dune 1984 and the last Dune Part 2, Blue Velvet, Spielberg's Jaws and Close Encounters, Nosferatu 1979.

Thanks

Film I never saw in the cinema, but would like to: Barry Lyndon.

A local cinema had a Kubrick season and I got to Dr Strangelove, 2001, The Killing and Paths of Glory. But I didn't get to the Barry Lyndon screening and I've always regretted the fact. I'd love to see that on the biggest screen available.

Film I'd like to see again in the cinema: probably Pulp Fiction. Preferably with an audience that hadn't seen it before.
