There is a movie called Watermelon Man (1970) that is sort of the opposite of that. It starts very goofy but then takes a more serious tone as the movie goes on.

The Thing (1982) might apply to your question. Its a normal beginning of winter at a research station in Antarctica until some weirdos show up chasing a dog.
