Was the 90s the golden age of cinema?

The '90s was a great decade for filmmaking, with its invasion of indie auteurs. It almost felt like another movement akin to '70s American cinema. Just think of all the great filmmakers that emerged this decade: Tarantino, PTA, Soderbergh, Fincher, Anderson, Payne, Linklater, just to name a few.
Do you agree ?

It was a good decade with great movies and some big stinkers. I don't know if it is the golden age, but it was a great decade to grow up in.
We had Forrest Gump, Jurrasic Park, Independence Day, The Matrix, Brahm Stoker's Dracula, A New Nightmare, City of Lost Children, Seven, Home Alone, Blank Man, and Saving Private Ryan.

We watched practical effects push the boundaries of their abilities and the birth of CGI. Tom Hanks shook JFK's hand. A T-Rex ran smoothly (nothing against stop motion but it was really cool).

It was a good decade for film.

Golden Age of Cinema? Are you joking?

The Golden Age of Hollywood is considered the 1940s and 1950s, the era of film noir , Marilyn Munroe, and Orson Welles.

I am the biggest 90s kid on the planet, but 90s the golden age of cinema? NO. Absolutely not. There were a lot of good movies in the 90s but it also brought us some of the WORST movies of ALL TIME.

70s and 80s were best. Huge number of memorable franchises were created.

Star Wars
Aliens
Terminator
Superman (superhero films)
Jaws
Indiana Jones

No.

1970s = American Movies
1960s= Every other Movie

Definitely my favourite era of cinema and what I consider the Robin Williams era of cinema (since he did his best work during this time), but not the literal golden age. I think there's a lot of nostalgia attached to this era because so many great kids and teen movies came out in the 90s, so even if you were an adult then, you'd still have a lot of fondness for a lot of the films from that time - but there's just as much bad as good. It was a really fun time to be a movie goer, though.

I don't think it was the golden age of cinema, but I do think that it might be the golden age for independent films. Just looking at some of the directors you've mentioned, maybe that's what you meaning?
