None other than the late and great Roger Ebert commented that Keitel’s performance ‘was courageous, few actors would want to be seen in that light…’
I’m paraphrasing but you dig the message.
Keitel is always terrific but I couldn’t take my eyes off of him in this role. I’ve seen Bad Lieutenant several times just for his acting, I’d be hard pressed to think of another film dirtbag I had any sympathy for.
Yea dude , i watched in one Friday night some friends and a coupla beers and joints. We knew nothing about it other than Harvey was in it. And needless to see we were all like " holy shit that went places we did not think it would"
One day ill rewatch one day. it but its one i have to find the right time for, especially now that i have a wife and 2 young kids. The last thing i need is one of them walking into the room while Harvey's standing in front of the mirror .
And its true about actors not wanting that " light" . I often wanna see the bigger names play bad people.
Its rare happens every so often but no one took it to the level that he did.
A really crazed performance of a guy that had it all but was too foolish or addicted to see the big picture.
I don’t want to *SPOIL* anything for people that haven’t seen this great flick but I think I get his final ‘good’ act, he knew he was doomed and he was giving another sinner a break.
