What were you doing in 1969?

Well?

Doing set decoration for the Apollo 11 'moon landing' (🤫 don't tell anyone...)

reply

What's it like working with Kubrick? Was he as demanding as they say? How many takes of the first step on the moon did you do?

reply

I didn't work for Kubrick. *We* worked for Nixon. Suffice to say, they didn't get on. Kubrick insisted on doing about 472 takes of Neil and Buzz planting the flag. He was messing about with just having one of them do it, switching between the two, making sure they got the placement and the depth of the flag just right, before Dick got on the phone and gave him an earbashing. A few anti-Semitic epithets were thrown about, I can tell you. He told Stan in no uncertain terms that if he didn't get his pinko Eastern-European ass into gear by July 20, the Russkies would have already be claiming ownership of the Moon and declaring it part of the Soviet Bloc.

Ha😄

reply

Listening to Grateful Dead and dropping acid. Just kidding, I was 9-10 years old.

reply

Do you remember the moon landing? Must have been awe-inspiring as a kid.

reply

Yes, I remember mostly because my grandmother took two pot lids and clashed them together like cymbals, saying, "We're on the moon!"

reply

Plot twist: you were only joking about listening to Grateful Dead but you were telling the truth about dropping acid at age 9.

reply
