"Are you okay?"

"If it were a friend who said something mean to you, I usually look up and say, 'Are you okay?'," she says.

Those three words can signal that even if you don't take the comment personally, you didn't really appreciate it.

Just as important as content is tone, Ho emphasizes. When you say, "Are you okay?" don't be short or sharp. Use a friendly affect.

"I'm not being offensive back," she says. "I'm coming from a place of care and that is usually to put the other person in check."

I just read your post, and afterwards I started watching an episode of one of my favorite shows. A main character wasn't really listening to another person speak, so the one being slighted said "Are you okay?"

Uncanny timing! This is great advice. Thanks for posting.

I just block the ones who post a lot of crap.

It took a "Harvard-trained" expert to think of a Terry Bogard line?

There's a right end of a hairbrush to have up your ass?

When you pull it out, you want to be grasping the handle part.

reply

That would work with friends, but not always with assholes on the internet.

reply

‘Harvard trained etiquette expert’ giving advice on how to handle assholes? That’s rich.

reply

lol, yeah, just like their tuition

reply

When I see certain posters now, I don't even bother reading their posts.
