Heathers

I watched it for the first time not so long time ago, it's unusual teen comedy.

Girl Interrupted
The Virgin Suicides
Suicide Room

The Virgin Suicides is without a doubt one of the most depressing movies I ever seen even compere to other suicide movies.

Suicide Room is the only one I didn't seen from your list. From what I seen in the trailer, I am not sure about the acting but interesting idea for a movie. Add to watchlist.

Better Off Dead... (1985)
Love Liza (2002)

LOVE LIZA IS SO DAMN GOOD...I HAVE SEEN THAT ONE A DOZEN TIMES OVER THE YEARS. NOEMOJI

reply

It really digs into the aftermath of grief with unanswered questions and survivor's guilt. Great performance as always from the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

reply

HE WAS /IS A FAVORITE OF MINE...LOVE LIZA IS MY FAVORITE OF HIS FILMS...SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ONE SPEAKS TO ME. NOEMOJI

reply

Awesome insight. Please let me know what you think of Death Game (1977):

reply

Better Off Dead look too much cynical for me.

I agree with both of you about Love Liza. Philip Seymour Hoffman is amazing in this one, not sure why only few people watch this one. As you said, it's authentic depicted of the survivor's guilt.

The Usual Suspects

reply

Really? it's about suicide?
I probably don't remember well enough what is the movie about.

reply

Maybe he’s thinking Ordinary People with Mary Tyler Moore

reply

Ordinary People certainly fits the OP subject.

The Slender Thread (1965) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059729/
Stars Sidney Poitier and Anne Bancroft
Directed by Sydney Pollack
Poitier plays a college psychology major who, while volunteering at a Crisis Call Center, receives a phone call from a woman (Anne Bancroft) who has taken too many sleeping pills.
Can he find out why she did so?
Can he find out where she's calling from?
Can he save her in time?
Only the slender thread of the telephone line keeps him connected with her.

reply

Nice, the storyline (and Sidney Poitier and Anne Bancroft) really got me.
The phone call is really good anchor.
I'm a little surprised to see it's not a thriller.

Thank you, added to my watchlist.

"Me Before You" (2016) is a different take on the subject.

"Pump Up The Volume" (1990) although not entirely about suicide does feature the subject and is done very well. It also deals with teen isolation and depression.

reply

From these two Pump Up the Volume sound the most intriguing, but Me Before You can be a nice feel good movie (?) with two charismatic lead actors.

reply

I saw a little bit of "Me Before You", " Virgin Suicides" was good but sad. I would like to see " The Slender Thread".

reply

I would like to see " The Slender Thread

Me too, CKid know how to sell it.

Virgin Suicides was good but extremely melancholic, I can't watch it more than once. The same happen to me with the even better movie Requiem for a Dream.

reply

In Virgin Suicide, the older girls would have been going to college in a few years, perhaps dorm. They could have finally had their freedom. Better than group suicide.

reply

Wouldn't you think a movie that touches on suicide would be melancholic?
I saw Virgin Suicides randomly on TV but I found it compelling. For me, the story was maybe a little too odd and mysterious for me to be emotionally rattled by the penultimate event. Maybe like Donnie Darko or a David Lynch film, I was more aware of watching something fascinating but somewhat artificial. I'd see it again given the chance.

reply

Me Before You isn't really feel good although it kind of looks like it might be that at the start of the film. It's worth watching for a different take on the usual suicide themes.

the suicide squad

reply

You'd be surprised but I've never watched it.

reply

they all die in the end

reply

Me myself not care but next time don't forget using the spoiler alert.

Any case it's really unusual for a comics movies end this way.

the title was your spoiler

Leaving Las Vegas

reply

Oof! That was a rough one.
Excellent performances but damn…
I’ve only seen it once and it left an impression.

reply

It's one of my "reverse" favorites. I thought it was stunning at the first watch but doubt I would enjoy a second viewing and wouldn't recommend it unless I knew that person would have the right mind set.
But it was riveting, which is usually a good thing.

reply

Yes, it’s a real gut punch and I think once was plenty for me. There is a French movie called Irreversible that was extremely well made by interesting, professional people but again one viewing was enough.
