They are purely ceremonial. They may influence things that they are passionate about but the can't pass laws and never say anything political.

Rarely the queen would say something that would affect parliaments view on a subject but that was the extent of it.
There was something about Maori rights in New Zealand and one tribe was exempt from financial help. They queen made a general statement that they were in fact the same as other native New Zealandanders and that was that - they gained the land and money that was owed back to them from the New Zealand government.
