You missed bagpipes

reply

Bagpipes could work if used subtly.

I've always liked "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" by AC/DC:

Subtle and doesn't try to overpower.

The bagpipes sound fine so long as you're about half a mile away from them.

reply

I don't think they're that bad when implemented well.

Recorder

I'm going to add auto-tune, even though it's not a musical instrument.

The technology was designed to correct a singer's voice if they happened to hit a couple of notes off-key. This saved having to retake the entire recording. It was never intended to be a means to cover up ones lack of talent, nor to make the voice sound metallic. Those songs with the robotic voices sound so stupid.

I've heard amazing banjo music.

Vibra-slap

No they're not. Anything that makes music or percussion or cool effects is wonderful.

Banjos, Accordions, Synths are beyond wonderful

My mother used to play the accordion while pregnant with me. It explains a lot to me, as far as I'm concerned.

Absolutely! Case in point, the duduk. An odd sounding name for such a soul-stirring instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jaGPxHMX1I

The plethora of instruments in this magnificent piece of music! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjHYzFHZKrM

Banjo and accordion are legit instruments, but not sure about some of the others.

reply

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY.

I had a buddy years ago, a black guy, old school blues musician. We got into a discussion once about playing the harmonica. His sage advice at the time was, "You gotta know how to make the train talk."

And it's such a perfect analogy if you think about it. Who at some time, hasn't made the subliminal connection between the melancholy wail of a train whistle in the distance and a blues harmonica?
