I'm on the final episode of shudders 101 scariest movie moments of all time. I really don't like zombie movies but Train to Busan is #7 so I guess I'll have to watch it soon.

Is Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) in the top 5?

reply

#1 I had trouble watching the clips.

reply

#1 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Ok I'm not happy about this win. I've never seen this movie, but I see why it won, it makes me very uncomfortable watching the clips of it. I really don't like this type of movie, but I may try to watch it.

reply

Fantastic! It really is amazing and it’s not gory at all. If you do happen to watch it, please post letting us know what you thought.

reply

What the fuck, not gory. I fast forwarded to the 40 minute mark, I hate movies with no plot. I'm going to watch for a little more. I do see why it was #1, it's scary as hell.

reply

Hmmmm, maybe I missed the gory parts when I watched it. 🤔

This movie is 100% directors fame. No plot, no acting, just a lot of cool shots. I get why he's tops for directors now.

reply

If you enjoyed it, I’d definitely rewatch it from the beginning sometime. Much of the plot in the beginning is important to the story. Also, that slow burn up until the first encounter with Leather Face is vital. Watching the scene that leads to and ends in the bone room without the beginning will diminish it’s effect.

But, just as Shogun said, it’s not a bloody or gory film by todays standards.

Speaking of "slow burn"....Jessica Biel in this version

I haven’t seen it and I’m never too enthusiastic about remakes, but I do like the feel of most of this clip.

Don’t think for a minute that any woman would talk to you, you had a wife and son and you completely fucked that up you pice of trash.

It is a pretty bloodless movie for something about a ‘Chainsaw Massacre,’ I think that’s why it was so successful. Hooper had a limited budget of about $300k against which they made horror movie history with a $30 million dollar return in ticket sales. Many of the actors have admitted the sets were pure hell, what with actual rotting beef and smelly cow bones on the sweltering Texas locations.

The complete lack of motivation and back story for the cannibalistic Sawyer Clan was equally alarming.

They just waylaid, butchered and devoured random strangers.

Even the climax is unsettling, hardly anything was explained or settled.
THE TCM is one of the best horror movies ever made.
