Man fired for joke he made 23 years ago

This doesn't go far enough, we need to fire the racist who hired him, then fire the racist who hired the racist who hired him and keep going until everyone has been fired and everyone is out of a job. This is the only way to end hate, fire everyone! [/sarcasm]
shareit is easy to see who controls society. its the group of people who you are not allowed to joke about
shareI've heard that line somewhat differently, as a quote sometimes misattributed to Voltaire, something to the effect of: "If you want to know who controls society, ask yourself this. Who is it I am not allowed to criticize?"
shareNowadays, George Carlin's "7 things you can't say on television" would have to renamed to "A million things you can't say on television". People have lost their sense of humor.

shareI'd hang my head in shame if I ever put up a web page like that. Not because of the topic matter, but because it's largely the same jokes over and over again.
"My grandfather died in the Holocaust." "That's so sad." "Yeah, he fell out of a guard tower."
A Jew goes to Heaven and tells a Holocaust joke to God, who replies, "That's not funny." The Jew replies, "I guess you had to be there."
Those were both on that page seven times each. Don't the admins of that site have any pride at all?
Really...
I'm disabled, so I could have been in big trouble under a Nazi regime.
That a person can be fired from his job now over some joke he made in 1998 is really ridiculous though.
Lots of people did stupid stuff twentythree years ago.
> I'm disabled
Sorry to hear that. No actual disability here, I've been lucky so far, just all the creaks, aches, and pains of being an old fart.
> Lots of people did stupid stuff twentythree years ago.
I'm repeating myself here, but -- sooner or later we're going to see some aspiring politician's career destroyed by a stupid remark made on the Internet when in grade school. I can still find Usenet posts I made in 1994, 27 years ago. A person who was eight then would be thirty-five today.
Well, I have to deal with aches and pains without being even being old.
That is not fun, especially as you will get more sympathy as a senior citizen than if you're young but disabled.
I don't believe that this is the last time that we see something like this either.
When it comes to political correctness gone mad, it is really hard to know where it will stop.

The whole world is going nuts. A few years ago I saw a psychologist say that it's one thing if the older generation doesn't get into social media, but if a twenty-something doesn't enthusiastically use Facebook, Twitter, et cetera, it's prima facie an indicator of mental illness. That really says more about that therapist than about anyone else IMO.

Yet we have politicians who have done blackface (canada), famously caught saying "grab em by the pussy" and numerous ones caught lying on tape, then denying they've lied, and they still get elected. I'm not sure that we will ever see politicians held to the same (ridiculous) standard as everyone else. I've said some things that I'm not proud of, and have made jokes that I shouldn't have 25-35 years ago. I mean haven't we all? Getting fired for it just seems so stupid. I mean if it were yesterday....maybe. but 20 years ago....come on.
This is truly stupid. People should mind their own business.
