Maybe you had certain expectations or plans years ago (or recently) but for reasons you list, did you expect to make more money? I'm not trying to include the pandemic, so feel free to use 2019 as "today".
shareI am doing fine. I would be making more if I gone to work for a large accounting firm but I am not the wining and dining and golfing type. Also, I had no desire to work downtown but I managed to make a reasonably good living for the past 35 years right here in the suburbs.
shareYou sound like a content person.. That's all that counts. Plus, you don't know if you would remain happy in that kind of life you don't desire, although it seems hard for some people to turn down a certain lifestyle, especially if they have an ambitious wife.
