Anyone else dislike the rock band "KISS"?

I agree that they were brilliant at marketing their brand and image but if you dig deeper their songs were awful. Plus, Gene is one fcked up dude.

Earlier stuff was good, even very good, straight-ahead hard rock; a time they were playing to eat. Post 1976...eh...77 there was good stuff to be had but increasingly buried amongst the chaff of the cheesy hype. Post make-up album 'Creatures of the Night' ( 1983 ) solid rock album. I can live with 'Psycho Circus' ( 1996 ).

THEIR MUSIC IS GREAT ON MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS.

I have all their albums and have seen them live. To me, they’re a fun, good time rock & roll band; they’re good, but not great.

Oh God, I was in high school during their heyday, such as it was. Even stoned high school kids could see that they were all costumes and marketing, and their music was crap. Did they even have any hits?

What exact period, year-wise was this?

Hits? In the world of hard rock and heavy metal, which is largely an underground attraction, "hits" don't have the cachet that that those that covet soft-rock BS might have. In any case, as far as any of their "hits" come to mind, 'Rock and Roll all Night', 'Shout it out Loud', 'Doctor Love' come to mind. Received regular airplay, with all the good and the bad that might imply. Certainly the disco-y 'I was made for lovin' you' of 1979 comes to mind, even if it highlighted their descent to mellow cheesy "soft hard rock era" bullshit.

Not a fan.

I really like Kiss
Gene IS a strange dude though

Gene tries too hard. Ace was really the only true rock star in the band closely followed by Peter Criss they both left in part due to Paul and Gene dominating the band and the marketing getting to such a stupid level they ended up with 12 year olds at their concerts.

Their songs are ok for the most part nothing amazing but I would still listen to them over a lot of other bands.
