Chess
Anybody play?
shareLove it. Pappy taught me when I was 5. Never took it easy on me but we played a few times a month. Made beating him at later age satisfying. I am a decent player for someone who played maybe a game a year (and not at all for about 15 years now).
I never liked timed nor speed Chess.
I prefer Cluedo.
shareI know a guy, met him quite a few years ago. Pretty rough around the edges, no driver's license, liked to smoke and drink and provoke fights, no fixed address, scrappy little dude. Years later he was getting his act together somewhat and I was at his place where he had a chess board all set up and ready to go. When I mentioned it his eyes lit up as he said, "Do you play?"
Man, right away I knew I didn't want to go there. The sort of enthusiasm born from a lot of success, and I simply know the moves and haven't played in years. Nope, not interested in having my butt handed to me.
Later he said he played people on line and most of them would quit before checkmate.
A fast and easy, fun game derived from chess is Metacheckers. It involves the random elements of a die roll, combined with chess moves on a checkers board. Average playing time 15-30 minutes. https://www.metacheckers.com/

Interesting. I would definitely give that game a go.
shareA boy beat adults in Metacheckers at a board game tournament. He won it at the age of 10 and then repeated as champion at age 11. So kids and adults can enjoy and excel at this fast game, which has multiple strategies to win.

Yes, I was in the school team. During the first lockdown in the Summer, I taught my six year old daughter and she likes playing too now.
