Popular films you've never seen

The big one a can think of is all the Star Wars. I'm sure there's many more too 📽

reply

All those freaking Marvel movies.

reply

Im with you on that.

reply

Yup, with you guys too and have no intention to see any of them anytime soon.

reply

Me neither!

reply

Yeah ugh hoping they stop

reply

Same with few exceptions

reply

The only one worth watching is Iron Man. Not even the sequels.

reply

What Stratego said. Superhero films are awful and unfortunately seem to be almost all that comes out especially in the summer.

reply

Mary Poppins - Julie Andrews gives me the heebie-jeebies.
The Sound of Music - See above.
Forrest Gump - Just no.
Titanic - Any film where the leading man is prettier than the leading lady has got problems.

reply

Same with the marvel stuff
Wolf of Wall Street
Most Tarantino movies.

reply

" You talkin' to me ? "

reply

Sorry no wasn’t meant! Haha

reply

Why no to Forrest Gump? It sounds a bit random but it's good 👍

reply

But Kate gets naked in Titanic. And it's pretty great. So is Forrest Gump! But good call skipping the first two.

reply

I've never seen Gone With the Wind. I don't know why, but it just hasn't happened.

I haven't ever completed any of the Star Wars or Godfather films, but I've at least tried, so I'm not sure if these count.

reply

Gone with the Wind ? You're not missing much. One of the most over-rated of "classic" films.

reply

Yeah, no one has ever said anything to the contrary of what you just said whenever I've mentioned this in conversation, so I haven't exactly been sold on why I should see it.

reply

I haven't seen:
(not sure if these are all still considered popular or not:)

any of the Divergent movies.
The Hangover Part 3 (2013)
Incendies (2010)
Bumblebee (2018)
The Lovely Bones (2009)
Just Go with It (2011)
Jack Reacher (2012)
Warrior (2011)
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)

reply

Watch Borat ally! It’s a 8.5/10 for me!

reply

I'll consider it Stoney, but if I watch Borat and don't like it, I'm holding you personally responsible and sending you an angry email.

reply

warrior was added to netflix on the 1st of this month, at least in canada. i'm planning on revisiting it soon.

i never ever would have thought a movie about mma would become one of my favourite films, but it did and it is. i absolutely love it - it's a male weepie of the highest order, a modern rocky imo. it sports some cliches & contrivances, but what sports movie doesn't?

highly recommended.

reply

I have Warrior on blu ray, but every time I think about watching it, I just can't get into the idea of it. I'll get around to it eventually.

reply

Borat, dude.

reply

I am surprised you haven't seen Incendies.

reply

I have been meaning to for a while, but never got around to it.

reply

very dark subject matter.

reply

Incendies is a dreadful film. I wouldn't rush to it.

reply

i thought it was great. very dark & sad, & it has one heck of an ending.

reply

I found it melodramatic and preachy and disliked the ending in particular... heavy-handed filmmaking, but I appreciate that a lot of people like it.

reply

None of the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or newer Star Wars films. Most of the DC and Marvel films I haven't seen.

I'm not completely anti-hero film, but I can't stand the fad that seems targeted to keep everyone in perpetual adolescence - with a taste for fantasy strong-men and individualist, black and white, good versus evil thinking. With hyperbole; I see it as part of our own cultural degradation and intellectual brain-drain. Yes, I sound like a snob but I don't care...

I loved Joker though...

reply

Citizen Kane
Clockwork Orange
Scarface
Star Wars Episode II, III, IX and Solo
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
The Shining
The Exorcist
Christine

reply

Those are some great films there except for those Star Wars films.

reply

That I've never seen.

reply

Why is that?

reply

Idk. Just happens like that. I love mafia movies. And Italian / Sicillian themed movies in general. I've watched all the Godfather movies, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Casino, The Departed, American Gangster, Public Enemies, The Untouchables, Road to Perdition, etc. I just haven't seen Scarface.

reply

You've probably heard it a million times before, but nevertheless, if you love gangster films you'll love Scarface.

reply

Yeah, citizen kane I've not seen. Or it's a wonderful life. (Did see the muppet version though 🤭)

reply

You haven't seen my two favourite films of all time (Gone With the Wind and Ben Hur)! Both are masterpieces and essential films. If we are going to continue being BFFs, you have to see both the next chance you get!

reply

they're both verging on 4 hours long for heaven's sake!.

well, ben hur is 3.5 hrs. but still...i see those running times and all the life drains out of me.

i know that they're essential & that one can't claim to be cinematically literate if you haven't seen them.

but there's nothing in the world i like so much that i want to spend 4 hours doing it.

however, publicly shaming me is a very good strategy. i can definitely be embarrassed into doing things. that's worked before, and it will work again.

and there is a stream of gone with the wind on netflix right now.

so...well, don't take this as a legally binding agreement...but i might try spreading it out over two evenings this week.

if i do, i will report back.

reply

I knocked Cleopatra of the list a few weeks ago.

reply

I am a big Cleopatra fan. Rex Harrison is like a stand up comic in the first half.

reply

Caesar was a riot.

reply

“Young lady, have you broken out of your nursery here to irritate the adults? Some other time!”

reply

The jurassic park one surprises me. They are always on! ITV2 in the UK at least anyway 🙄

reply

Love Story was a box office hit?

reply

it was massive. according to the wiki page, it was the 6th biggest box office hit of all time at the time of release. i guess it seems surprising now, since it's a film that's fallen out of public consciousness in a lot of ways, i think. people still know the title, might be vaguely aware that it was a part of 70s pop culture, but otherwise i think it's faded away from view.

it certainly doesn't have the staying power of the other 70s films on that list. most people, even if they haven't seen it, know what the exorcist & grease & the sting are about, have a notion of the impact those films made. i don't think that's the case with love story.

i remember my sisters having the novelization on their bookshelf as a kid for whatever that's worth.

reply

I was shocked to find out that Love Story won the most Golden Globes in history, and now this. This movie is now completely off the radar. Even the score on IMDb isn't even that high. I never hear this being brought up as a box office hit.

reply

Citizen Kane
Gone With The Wind
