I still haven't seen a GOT episode

Here's why: I get that it's supposedly a great show, but I'm not much into medieval material.

For example,
the only medieval film I care for (at all) is Centurion.
A friend of mine is into the medieval scene, possibly due to his middle name being Arthur, as in King.

But I digress.
Another thing I don't like doing is being into
(or watching) what everyone else is.
I guess I'm not "mainstream", and what everyone else is doing doesn't pique my interest.

I didn’t know what GOT was, had to ask someone. I tried to watch game of thrones a few times, mostly by other people forcing me to and insisting it’s the best show ever. I personally don’t think you’re missing anything, and I’m someone who likes medieval shows. If they’re good.

reply

Yeah,
I think I'm much more the Supernatural type.

I understand not wanting to like what everyone else is liking. I prefer to swim in my own lane as well, but there are times when something is liked by everyone because it's that good. I'm not saying GoT was that, but I'm just saying there are things worth jumping on the wagon for.

reply

It's not worth watching since the last season destroys everything it built up the other seasons.

GOT is a boring and slow show about negativity.

I tried to watch but it is boring with slow dialogue, not much wit, and all of this backstabbing. Also, the nudity was extremely juvenile like something from the 70s.

It also REALLY lacked creativity.

The place has totally normal names like, Hi my name's NED STARK and I'm from NORTHWORLD, and that is totally stupid. We are riding to Clevelandio! We are taking the routous 80ous to Clevelandio!

I mean do some world building! The author wanted to write historical fiction which is too much research so he made a WEAK fantasy setting to tell stories about asshole and threw in a dragon.

reply

If you haven't watch it, don't. The ending sucked anyway. Not recommended.

reply

Me neither, nor star wars 😝

I don't usually go for swords and castles either, but I tried it b/c it was on HBO.

When I realized it was a little different than what's typical of that genre, I watched it until the end.

And yes, the last seasons didn't work -- but I can't think of too many shows that stick the landing.

At its peak, GoT was pretty darn good. It weaved a lot of interesting elements into a compelling fabric.

reply

Out of curiosity,
what do you think was the best season?
The fact that you mentioned
a "peak" makes me think it's not season 1.
On a side note, season 4
had an interesting tagline (All men must die).

reply

Hmmm... I had to look over the seasons b/c I don't have the recall that some do.

But it actually might be Season 4 -- but there's enough in 5 and 6 to hang in there.

7 & 8 is where it flakes for me. But 1 thru 4 is a slam dunk.

It blends family, politics, war, and supernatural elements pretty well. At its best, it digs deep into all of them at the same time.

You didn't miss much. It's mostly just sex, violence, foul language, punishing good guys for being honorable, letting the bad guys get away with their bad behavior, and only punishing them long after it should have been done, back-stabbing, lots of blood and gore, and really bad story-telling in the last season.

The only thing memorable about the series were the costumes, and you don't need to watch to take a look at those.
