Out of all the u.s. presidents who do you think had the hardest job like which president took office at the "unluckiest" time period
Lyndon Baines Johnson. He took office in horrible circumstances and was faced with a country in social upheaval and was saddled with an unpopular war. No matter what he did he was going to be hated by one group or another.

I greatly admire his stance on immigration, voter's rights, education funding, the Civil Rights acts of the late 50s-60.
Johnson was on point domestically for sure
He was a fairly progressive guy and I admire that, even if I lean more conservative personally
The man loved his country and could command the room, he was also a lovable Hillbilly, I quite like a fellow like him automatically
His Vietnam policy was a disaster though...We should have never gotten our young men involved in a foreign civil war...My Father in Law got sent there, he came home alive thank God, with a bunch of medals and lots of nightmares
I do admire Johnson, he got the job done under the most terrible of circumstances, you could even say he was just carrying on the Anti-Communist policy that Kennedy had carried on from previous administrations....I don't blame them, communism is an absurd dream, unfitting for reality

As I understand it most of the Southern States seceded immediately following Lincoln's election...Lincoln, and I assume the rest of the American people, would have preferred to avoid a sickening catastrophe that killed 600,000 people but the economy of The Southern States relied very heavily on Plantations and slavery
The die was cast, the Glorious South quit the Union, The Industrious North said 'No you don't' and a generation lost their fathers and brothers in the ensuing carnage
Honest Abe just happened to be there and he happened to be on the right side of things, all things considered

It's unfortunate and one of the ironies of history that that Confederacy hated Lincoln and yet his vision for them to be reunited with the North was one of forgiveness and tolerance. All of that died when he was assassinated and the heavy hand of reconstruction fell on the South. I think it's possible that the Klan would never have become what it did had Lincoln lived.

Both faced a national crisis that would have beaten lesser fellows, the country was in grave danger and both of them managed to prevail...both ended up dying tragically but they were heroic leaders for sure
I might add Washington as well because the 'Law Of The Land' had not been sussed out and he was the first guy to jump into the deep end of the pool
Teddy Roosevelt certainly deserves a mention, America was growing at an enormous pace and he kept the neighbors in check and ran a proper operation...these dummies today could never dig the Panama Canal AND tell Europe to back off
