It can be anything. Cars (Porsche, Bentley, Ferrari, etc) Clothes (Gucci, Prada etc), watches (Rolex, Omega etc) hotels (Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons), whatever you want.
Just a brand you actually like and aspire to have or use.
Luxury items don't interest me. My phone is ancient, my car even more so and I would much rather pitch a tent on a riverbank than stay at the Ritz Carlton.
Ummm, does underwear count? I always buy Calvin Klein undies, but that's totally a comfort thing.
I do "simple" too. Status things don't interest me in the least. I just can't fathom spending extra $$ just so I can say or show off Luxury Brand X. It doesn't make sense to spend more for X when Y is just as good for a lot less. But that's just me.
Same! I don't need a brand name. I want something that works. Clothes, I've never been into labels. I remember as a teen saving up for a fancy brand name pair of jeans. Yeah, they were so not worth it.
Yep that's me too 😀 My Chevy truck is 43 this year. My phone is at least 7 years old (my last one was over 12). I live in the Appalachian mountains so why would I ever go to a hotel. I buy offbrands because they're half the price.
For clothes - cotton is cotton. Wool is wool. Leather is... etc. Better, worse - I don't care.
However... Glock, Ruger, Beretta, Mossberg, Henry, Marlin...
Don't cut corners with the life and safety of yourself and the people you care about.
That's just me. And the military. And law enforcement. And security personnel. Etc.
It's a valid question. Surely human error can crop up there as well as anywhere else. It's one of the better clips I've seen, I'll have to admit and I thought the Paul Newman angle was especially cool and appropriate for this site.
Have you ever seen the ones where they rerun an episode and re-value the item on the bottom of the screen? Ten years later it might be more, the same, or less. But they don't explain why. Certainly one reason is beyond the appraisers control--a changing market. Things go in and out of favor. Or a once rare item is no longer rare because more examples have turned up in the wake of a well publicized high price.
I remember a Patek Philippe watch being appraised for $250,000 and it ended up selling for $1.5 million. But I don't know if this was necessarily a horrible appraisal, as the watch turned out to be a one-of-a-kind piece.
As to grossly overvalued, I can't quite recall what it was but the new appraisal was way, way, less than the original. But again, they didn't explain why. But sometimes it's an out and out mistake, see here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HxpwSX1uCU
Interesting. It makes sense that the market will have changed from earlier episodes, and a very good point that more examples may be found that would change the value. I think the show, or a version of the show, is on one of my streaming services. I may have to watch a few episodes.
I drive a company car so when I retire I will need to buy one. I'll probably end up with a Lexus, but I'm not sure that really falls into the true luxury category although they like to peddle it that way.
Lexus was obviously a luxury Toyota. However, it has no luxury pedigree.
Japanese and luxury is kinda oxymoronic. Luxury is about abundance, more than enough, overflowing, unnecessary-ness. Japan is basically the opposite of any of it. They are sufficient, simple, practical, zen-like.
Lexus is a pretend / simulated luxury. It looks luxurious without the drawbacks of luxury.
And that is one of the appeals - they have beautiful interiors and a great ride with low maintenance because of the Toyota parts. They last forever, which is my goal.
But a luxury look without the drawbacks of luxury is not a real luxury. The point of luxury is to show excess, to make a point that one have more than he need.
A real luxury car need to be maintained constantly, with overpriced service charges and spare parts too. The interior has to be cleaned rigorously everytime it used, like beautifully stiched white leather seats AND carpeting where your dirty shoes stepped on. Piano black glossy surfaces eVeRYwHeRe so that it needs to be wiped every second. Better if it needs to be wiped using special cloth and cleaner liquid so it would not scratch because it was made to be easily scratched.
