What was the last film you watched in 2019?

I ended the year by watching Leprechaun 4: In Space on dvd. It was crazy and fun and I had a good time with it, rating it 7/10. What was the last film you watched in 2019?

reply

The Fall of the Roman Empire 1964

reply

I haven't seen that one. How was it? Worth watching?

reply

The first hour is great with James Mason and Alex Guinness. The movie suffers a bit after this .Great sets as they spent a fortune building a mini Rome from around 200 AD. Charlton Heston was suppose to play Livius but turned it down because he didn't like the script.

reply

I finished up The Good the Bad and the Ugly at 2:30am.
It’s a tradition to watch that every New Years Eve

reply

That's cool. I've seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly only once. I thought it was good, but not great and rated it a 7/10. Is The Good the Bad and the Ugly one of your all time favourites or is there a special reason you watch that one on New years eve?

reply

It’s in my top ten all time favorites.
It also reminds me of my dad who passed away in 2009.
It’s a very nostalgic movie for me , a serene way to end the year.

reply

A fine tradition

reply

It resides in my top ten also. You have a great tradition.

reply

I have seen leprechauns in space, and really a 7 outta 10? i mean i saw it years ago cant recall too many detail apart from space gold.

reply

It was pretty entertaining and a lot of fun.

reply

When my brother wakes up from his drunken stupor. I shall request he download it for me. I would do it myself but i always download the " wrong copy''. Computer illiterate.

reply

Interested to what you would rate the first leprechaun movie?

reply

reply

Mallrats!! 4 outta ten. L4 in space 7 outta 10. ive seen mallrats 20 times, love it. I saw L4 in space once and can hardly remember it. But each to there own. When did you last watch mallrats?

reply

I watched Mallrats February 23 2018. Personally, I thought it was stupid, unfunny and not very enjoyable.

reply

Fair enough , what is your opinion of say, Happy Gilmore?

reply

I didn't really like Happy Gilmore, rating it a 5/10. I find a lot of Sandler's comedies to be stupid and unfunny.

reply

I mean as much as it vexes me that you would rate L4 in space 7/10. And i would rate HG 9/10. I must digress. When did you watch L4 and the rest of the L's?

reply

I watched Leprechaun 4 last night. I watched Leprechaun 3 December 28, Leprechaun 2 December 26, and the first Leprechaun a few years ago. I haven't watched the later Leprechaun films yet, but I have them on dvd.

reply

whats your favourite movie?

reply

in general

reply

Ben-Hur (1959) is my favourite.

reply

may i ask how old ye be

reply

I'm 39 and a half.

reply

I'm not trying to be a dick, but i haven't heard anyone describe there age as a certain number then add a half since i was in primary school. I means is it exactly half? how precise can we get?

reply

I added the "and a half" to be silly. I like being silly. It isn't exactly a half though. My birthday is in May.

reply

tone is always so hard to convey in text, i get ya.

reply

Knives Out (2019) Very good movie and lots of fun. 8/10

reply

thats the last movie i watched last year aswell, loved it.

reply

I enjoyed Knives Out as well and agree with your rating of 8/10.

reply

southbound. i've probably watched it a few too many times at this point - it doesn't really hold any surprises for me now - but i still love getting wrapped up in its atmosphere. it's definitely one of my favourite horror films of the decade, & certainly my favourite anthology horror film.

i also caught war for the planet of the apes since it was yanked off of netflix as of today. that was the first time i'd caught it since it played in the theatres, & i liked it just as much this time as i did then. in fact, i might go as far as to say i think that apes series was one of the best large scale big budget series of films of the recent past.

reply

I haven't seen Southbound yet, but I might watch it today or sometime later this month. I enjoyed War for the planet of the apes.

reply

Ford vs. Ferrari
It was excellent

reply

I haven't seen Ford vs Ferrari yet, but I eventually will. What Oscar nominations do you think it could get?

reply

Visual effects and supporting actor for Bale would be good noms

reply

i think christian might just win aye. and for sure will get some visual or sound editing noms.

reply

Maybe Sound as well
Those races were loud and thrilling!

reply

Fo Sho!

reply

i dnt think it well get best pic or screenplay tho. seeing as, well to me it is almost a stock standard sport movie pic. story wise. Ish?

reply

Toy Story 4 on the plane to Mexico 3 weeks ago.

reply

I loved Toy Story 4. What did you think of it?

reply

I thought it was fine, but probably the weakest of the four. Duke Kaboom was a great addition, although I felt that many of the regular characters didn’t get too much of a look in.

reply

Spies in Disguise

reply

How was it?

reply

My son loves it. Me, not so much. It was more like a parody of James Bond than a real kids movie.

reply

Haven't seen it but it seems they didn't get the ratio of jokes right. Parody jokes for the adults who need some refo's . And then some dumb stuff for the kiddo's. You need the right mix so we can all just get along.

reply

Idk about the ratio, but I think James Bond parody has been done too many times like say in Austin Powers, Get Smart, Johnny English, Spy Kids, etc. Those jokes are just not funny anymore for the adults / parents. I've seen all those movies myself.

While the kids obviously would have never experienced James Bond. My son doesn't even know what a spy is. The parody was simply irrelevant for him.

So I guess, that was their missed shot. They should've just make it a straight goodguy vs badguy story and leave out the James Bond parody angle. It's an old tired trope.

reply

yeah i get ya. Must be hard though to right a movie for both kids and parents to enjoy.

reply

To be fair, my kid likes it and it's all that's matter, right? At least it was on the better side of 2019 animated movies. Better than Angry Birds 2, better than The LEGO Movie 2, Wonder Park, etc.

reply

I dont think it is all that matters, I mean the best kids movies are enjoyed by kids and adults alike, i mean in a perfect world. 'Cause fuck sitting through garbage with a fake smile.

reply

Don't get me wrong, Spies in Disguise is not garbage. Yes, the James Bond parody aspect is a little bit tiring, but the rest of the movie itself is fine. Like I said, better than The LEGO Movie 2 (that was terrible), etc. Afterall, 2019 didn't have a particularly strong lineup of animated movies.
