recommend a song you think most people won't know.

i was randomly browsing around this evening while watching a trashy movie as one does, and i stumbled across a song called 'you don't care' by a soul/folk performer i'd never heard of named terry callier. completely unfamiliar to me, but i thought it was very pleasant, has a nice lilting melody in a 70s easy listening sort of way that i really enjoyed.

if you have any unappreciated gems you'd like me & the world to hear, pass them along. i'm up for hearing something new & different.

Being Aussie on an international forum is easy Holy Grail by Hunters and Collectors a song that mainly only Aussies would know.

i don't know that song, but i had a pair of hunters & collectors records back in the day. jaws of life & another that i'm blanking on the title of. they got a bit of play on college & alternative stations back in my university days. i liked them quite a bit.

speaking of aussie bands from that era, i was, & still am a big fan of the go-betweens. & to a lesser extent the triffids.

If you liked college radio you may have heard the Hoodoo Gurus too?

reply

oh absolutely, they had a reasonably sized audience here. saw them in ... must have been '89 i'd imagine. terrific band. i think bittersweet got a bit of mainstream radio & mtv play.

i really loved the go-betweens. and i really liked grant mclennan's solo records, especially horsebreaker star. i think that album is one of the great lost pop records of the 90s.

Gotta love it when a band from your own country is blocked in your country due to copyright reasons!

But I have heard that song and love it. This is one of my faves of theirs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRHvTrfpiTI

Hmm can't find a workable one for that Grant McLennan song at all down here!

Grant McLennan "Surround Me" the two chicks in the clip are from a duo called Club Hoy, I had the hots for the darker haired one.

primal scream's velocity girl is one of my very favourite songs, and it's only 85 seconds long, so even if you hate it, it's over quickly.

Descending Angels by The Misfits is pretty cool

Most people don't seem to know them but they're really good

reply

i've heard about the misfits a billion times over the years, heard people reference them, heard people make fun of glen danzig. i've even heard of the smithfits, the smiths/misfits mashup band that is apparently quite popular with some folks.

but this is the first misfits song i've ever heard in my life.

i didn't really take to it, if i'm being honest, but i'm glad i gave it a listen. thanks!

Thanks for checking them out damosuzukišŸ‘
They are certainly not for everyone

the queen of seville by the clientele has a very nice erik satie-style piano hook, & is really a very nice, serene, slightly sad song that's perfect for staring out of windows on rainy days while pondering the futility of life.
